Call for Judgment: Unpaid Overtime

Enacted popular, 7-2. Josh

Adminned at 09 Aug 2021 07:37:27 UTC

Uphold the the attempts to propose https://blognomic.com/archive/floor_plans and https://blognomic.com/archive/bigger_basic_boxes

I forgot to finish my AA Atomic Action and now two proposals are illegal.

And for anyone who’s confused, like I initially was: the reason lemonfanta’s proposal is illegal is that an Interregnum doesn’t end until the Ascension Address action is completed properly, so it was posted during Hiatus. (I initially assumed that this proposal was trying to fix the issue of illegally performing two actions at the same time, but that would only affect Jumble’s proposal, not lemonfanta’s, and anyway only affects dynastic actions.)

Actually, I may have voted too fast; I’m not sure this CFJ fixes the issue.

From “Official Posts”:

Any Worker may post to the blog at any time, but may only make official posts to the blog when the Ruleset allows it. […] Any post that is or is made illegal as a result of an infraction against any of the prohibitions set out in this rule continues to be an Official Post but may no longer have any effect on the ruleset or the gamestate. […] If it is a Votable Matter then it is Unpopular, regardless of any other performance against criteria set out in the core rules. […] A post that is illegal in this manner cannot subsequently be made legal by any means.

The appendix takes precedence over the core rules, so CFJs are not sufficiently powerful to make proposals legal if they were actually illegal at the time they were posted (e.g. due to being posted in Hiatus), and thus the posting of the proposals isn’t something that can be upheld. (This probably affects a number of other current CFJs too.) We’re used to thinking of CFJs as all-powerful at BlogNomic, but that isn’t actually the case; there are some things they can’t do directly, and this is one of them.

Probably the simplest fix is to fail this CFJ, mark the proposals as illegal and repropose them, and tone down the appendix a bit?

So against because this CFJ is trying to do something that can’t be done by CFJ.

(I’ll change back to FOR if “By any means” passes, assuming that this CFJ hasn’t been failed in the meantime as having no gamestate effect.)

against CoV per ais; it’d be a frustrating waste of time if this passed before “By any means”
