Proposal: Unpainted tiles.

Quorum Reached. Passes 10-0—Clucky

Adminned at 28 Oct 2020 18:06:57 UTC

Add a new subrule to the rule Materials. Call it “Natural Colours” and give it the following text:

Some materials have Natural Colours associated with them. These colours are as follows:
Stone: brown, orange
Fine Sand: white
Wood: brown
Ink: Black
Precious Metal: Gold, Silver

In the rule “Pigments”, change the text

A tile may only have a colour for which the pigment is available.

to

A tile may only have a colour for which the pigment is available or which is a Natural Colour of the tile’s Material.

What does this add? It seems to confuse things slightly.

It means that pennants are harder to construct, for a start.

for but it’ll need some tweaking to deal with eg the effect of Stem, which changes colours but not materials.

How can this affect Pennants? It seems fine as a mechanic, but I can’t see that it actually changes anything yet.

@kevan unless your pennant is brown and orange you’ll need to source materials or pigments to make the necessary combinations.

Josh is correct that this doesn’t allow Stem to set a tile to a natural color.

However, I think it’s impossible to paint over a non-available natural color because that color doesn’t have a defined cost.

Red, Blue, Gold and Green are all still available, so this doesn’t change that.

Overall this seems somewhat niche. At some point, every color will become available and this won’t matter anymore.

I do like the basics of the idea though. Maybe make it so that you can set a white tile to its natural color regardless of adjacency?

for cause it doesn’t hurt and we can build off it

I am still entirely baffled by the stuff about Pennants. What am I missing? Isn’t this proposal just making a few more colours possible as an “or”? (It’s impossible to have Orange Stone Tile right now as Orange is Rumoured, but this new rule would allow Orange Stone to exist on the board if there was any way to create it. Which there isn’t.) We can still make Gold and Green Pennants as before.
