Proposal: Common Knowledge

Timed out (4-4) by Hix.

Adminned at 11 Jun 2006 22:12:28 UTC

Add a new Rule, “Public Domain,” to the Ruleset with the following text:

Any Monk who posts the full plaintext of a Secret Rule (NOT an encrypted rule) to the Blog shall gain 8 Integrity, unless the plaintext of that rule has already been posted to the blog.  The secret rule must exist before the post can be made.  Rules posted in this way may be used by any Monk.

Unless at least half of all comments containing counted votes also contain the text “No”, Give Bucky 8 Integrity.

...No.  Secret rules are *gasp* secret.  It’s not the rules fault that people don’t use the rules in place to find them out.

If you think that 8 integrity is too much, someone plans to propose to reduce the bonus to 3 tomorrow.

But no integrity bonus for you.

I like the way this plays out. Either keep the secret rule… you know… secret, so only you can take advantage of it, or you can post it so that everybody can use it/know about it/ suffer from it, and you gain integrity as a compensation.

against Although, of course, I would greatly benefit from the Integrity gain by releasing loads of useless secret rules.  Mostly I object to the vague “may be used by any Monk”.  As far as I know, secret rules already may be used by any Monk.  Does “may be used by any Monk” override phrases which might occur in the secret rules such as “A Monk who meets condition X may do Y”???

No, it is meant to override the language in “Hinting at Rules” that states that Monks need to e-mail the Abbot for each secret rule before they can use it.

“Hinting at Rules” is about Encrypted Rules.

Note that my comment containg my counted vote did not contain “No” (although it contained “no”) to encourage all to not allow Bucky the easy integrity gain.

Well That didn’t seem to work.  :P

against No. Not a fan of the extranious Bucky-benefit.

I’m also worried about people spamming fake secret rules (and not taking the 8 Integrity), mixed with real ones (gaining 8 Integrity), which would prevent us from telling which were real and which weren’t.

Well, Isolde, I know all of the secret rules, so I could spot a scam like that quickly enough. Interesting catch, though. ;)

But I’ll propose to decrease the benefit from 8 to something more reasonable. A Book only costs 9 points, all of which are almost recouped by that language.
