Proposal: Well Moot By Meenlight

Timed out and enacted, 3-0 with an unresolved imperial DEF. Josh

Adminned at 24 Aug 2023 13:28:47 UTC

Add a new Common to the list in the rule Commons, with the name Stormbrow Peak and an effect of ‘The District may Moot once, immediately after the completion of this Gathering’.

Add the following as a subrule to the rule Factions, called Mooting:

A District may Moot when directed to by the ruleset. Mooting is an action that is carried out by sending a direct message to the City announcing an intention to Moot.

When the City receives such a message, they should, at their earliest opportunity, carry out a Faction Test for each of that District’s Factions, and then issue the Reward of all Factions that remain Housed in that District to that District.

Multiply the numbers in all of the rewards in the table in the rule The People’s Front of Judea by 10.

“issue the Reward of all Factions” - this should either be a straight plural on Reward, or refer more explicitly to the Reward of all Positions of all Factions’ Cultures.

I’m not sure how many people will really invest their Energy in a Commons that only works once. If you’re concerned about the amount of Reward, would you consider removing the “once” and change it to having the City select a random Position in each Faction’s Culture (other than Loyal or Disloyal) and provide the Reward of just that one Position?

Also, I have posted an alternative idea that uses the Fallow value similar to what other Commons have done. Granted, my idea is a bit more complicated.

Why do you think it would only work once?

@Josh by “only works once” i believe he means “doesn’t scale with one’s Calendar” :0

The rewards for a decent suite of factions are probably already potentially big enough that calendar scaling would make them too generous, especially given your little hoard of calendar days lemon ;)

The statement is right there. I’m not sure how else to interpret it other that a District is only allowed to Moot once.

You can only do it once per activation of that Connection.

Like, you Gather, activate your Stormbrow Peak, get to moot once, then three dilemmas later Gather again, activate your Stormbrow Peak, get to moot once…

Oh, ok. It was just odd because every other Commons has an implied “once” that never had to be stated, so I’m not sure why this needed to be called out explicitly. It was confusing.

Also, if you didn’t multiply the rewards by 10, you could use the Fallow instead. I don’t quite follow the “hoard” issue, though. If you take 5x now and 5x later, or 10x later, you still end up with 10x. The only real difference is if you hit 0 or less due to hoarding your Calendar and not taking 5x sooner.

Well, there’s also the rounding issue, of course. If you take 4x or less, that’s not optimal because due to rounding you get nothing for it.
