Proposal: Workshop Maintenance

In the rule “Machines”, add “(which any Worker can arrange in alphabetical order, if it is not already)” directly after “available types of Machine”. In the same sentence, replace “are” with “is”.

Change the text of Crusher to the following:

Crusher
* Cost: one Energy and one non-Crusher Machine
* Effect: Gain the smallest possible valid payment for the Cost of the Machine spent to activate this Machine; any Things gained this way are named “Scrap” if not specified.

If https://blognomic.com/archive/widgets_take_2 passed, add “(and any Widgets that were attached to it)” before the semicolon in the Effect of Crusher.

alphabetizing the machines list, and more importantly, reworking the crusher from a boxing device to a refunding device, bc it’s both useless and bugged right now.

I’m not sure the “sorted alphabetically” does what you want it to – in particular, I don’t think it causes newly added machines to be put in their correct place in alphabetical order. It’ll just cause the ruleset to contain a false statement when one of them is placed out of order (or possibly end up accidentally redefining alphabetical order in the process).

Oh, and the change to Crusher makes it much, much more powerful: with the change, you can buy a cheap Machine for (e.g. 1 Cog), and instantly crush it to transform a 4-box into a 7-box (or a 3-box into a 7-box with the buff). The current wording of Crusher prevents you doing that – if a machine is freshly bought, you only get a box that’s smaller than the one you put in (which seems like an important property for balance purposes).

I think the whole machine needs to get tossed or reworked.

its strikes me as trap machine that doesn’t ever seem to be beneficial to use over the alternatives

usage 1: You use it to get rid of a hot machine so you can replace it with another machine. To do this, you need a box that’ll go down in value. Whereas if you didn’t have a crusher, you could keep both the crushed machine and just buy the new machine in the crushers place

usage 2: you use it to get rid of a cold machine: you’re paying a box that cost 4 or more to get a box that costs 3 to do something you could’ve done for free… and you’ve used a machine slot. definitely doesn’t seem work it

usage 3: you use it to get rid of a machine you didn’t activate last cycle: now you’re turning a 4 cost box into a 7 cost box… okay? that doesn’t really seem to me to be worth a machine slot. you’re probably better off with a glue gun, given you also needed to underperform during the previous cycle.

so like, all the cases you’d want to use it for I feel like there are better machines. it either needs a big buff or just to be let to die.

This is going to produce very weird effects if you crush a Greenhouse. What’s the smallest possible seed?

Corn has the least letters out of the crops! or, bc the type isnt specified, it’s just Scrap

@kevan clucky’s criticisms were of the pre-edit draft of this post, fyi! they’re what prompted me *to* rework it, like this, instead of the simple lil fix i had at first!

Ah, I guess I misinterpreted the lack of further response as meaning that their feedback still stood.

Think I’m still leaning AGAINST, though, the refund seems a bit on the generous side, particularly for Cog-expensive Widgets.
