Proposal: Writer’s block

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

In the sub-rule “The Monster”, in the first paragraph, add a new sentence as follows:

For the purposes of this paragraph, an Adventurer is not considered to have ever been the Monster unless they have Finished Transforming.

According to the current rules, an Adventurer may begin Transforming, let 48 hours pass, be Inspired and cease to be a Monster; having been a Monster, they will then be eligible to achieve Victory and will be unable to ever participate in a Battle as the Monster. This doesn’t strike me as a good strategy, but I’d rather make sure it cannot happen anyway, because it wouldn’t make the game any more exciting.

If this allows an Adventurer to opt out of being the Monster until later, wouldn’t everyone usually pass, in the hope of being the final Monster (when most strategies have been played out and they know what Havoc score they need to beat to win)?

That’s a good reason to fail this proposal, and in its stead put… nothing, really. The ruleset works just fine if we want each Adventurer to encounter the dilemma “be a Monster now or never be a Monster; the only difference will be in your eventual Merit score”.

PS: I’ve changed the wording and placement of the proposed addition a little to avoid any weird side-effects.
