Proposal: Zoning In

Reach quorum 8 votes to 0. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 06 May 2023 07:32:08 UTC

In the rule “Population”, if it exists, replace “a publicly-tracked number named Growth, defaulting to 1” with:-

a publicly-tracked list of Zones, defaulting to a single Residential Zone

Also replace “As a Daily Action, a City Architect may increase the Population of each of their Cities that they control by the Growth of that City.” with:-

As a daily communal action, a City Architect may increase the Population of every City by the number of Zones in that City.

If any Cities somehow exist, set each of their lists of Zones to a single Residential Zone.

Sandpapering the proposed daily action grind down into to a communal one, and renaming the abstract “growth” number to a list of named zones within a city, to open up some directions on that.

I like it, although I’d still be inclined to shift away from daily.

Likewise, although it depends how Cities end up being being created. I’m keeping amendments minimally incremental for the metadynasty, for now.

I’m not convinced that this is the way to reduce the daily grind, if that’s the concern. I also get the minimal incremental change, though.

To chart a path towards where we want to be, what do you think about borrowing from Habanero’s Blizzard dynasty? Any City Architect is able to update all cities’ Population, but when they do, they calculate how many real-time days have passed (recalling that in his dynasty, you calculated how many real-time hours passed to determine how much to decrease a player’s Temperature).

So, if no one updates for a few days, it’s still ok because when they do, they’ll catch up the values. I suppose what will likely happen is that the most active players will still update more often than that just to have the latest values in order to perform some other dynastic action, so maybe it doesn’t matter.

Yes, I’m assuming that a daily communal would fire every day. And that if it doesn’t, everybody loses out that day.

How and when we get to build Cities is going to be the tougher question.

I’m fine just skipping growth progress if nobody updates it that day. With this many players, it’s kind of collectively on our heads if nobody bothers.
