Proposal: A Variety of Terrain

popular 7-0. Enacted by Derrick.

Adminned at 26 Jun 2019 15:01:52 UTC

Create a rule named “Battlefields”:

A Battlefield has three randomly selected battle effects

Valid Battle Effects are:
*aquatic
*walled
*desert
*forest
*frozen
*rich
*poor
*level
*sloped
*underground
*farflung
*nearby

Create a subrule in Battlefields named “Scoring”

A creature’s Score on a battlefield is calculated by adding together the following:
*+2 if the creature has winged and the battlefield does not have underground or forest
*+2 if the creature has winged and the battlefield has walled or aquatic
*-2 if the creature has winged and the battlefield has underground
*+3 if the creature has giant
*+3 if the creature has fire breathing and the battlefield does not have frozen
*+2 if the creature has venomous or armored
*+4 if the creature has swimming and the battlefield has aquatic
*-1 if the creature has swimming and the battlefield does not have aquatic
*+2 if the creature has surefooted and battlefield has sloped, desert, forest or underground
*+2 if the creature has swift and the battlefield has farflung or level
*+1 if the creature has Fanged, Horned, Obedient, or Ferocious

for Was the “A Battlefield has three randomly selected battle effects” paragraph accidentally truncated? But it shouldn’t matter until we get a mechanism for creating Battlefields.

[kevan]

I was writing a proposal that created battlefields, defined armies, and gave a method for selecting armies for battlefields and scoring the results, but decided it was better propose in smaller pieces: I have a tendency to make less than perfect proposals, and I don’t want one piece of the proposal to keep back everything else.

So the system is incomplete but intentional, and works as is.

Clarification that I think is important. Does a Fanged Horned Obedient Ferocious Human have a +4 or a +1? Likewise, does a Fanged Fanged Fanged Human have a +3 or a +1? By a strict reading of the rules it feels like it should be +1 for both, but I’m not sure if that’s what’s intended.

[Kaia] I think your reading is correct. The intent was to make Fanged Horned Obedient Ferocious give +4 but Fanged Fanged Fanged give +1.

Oh well. Its not that hard to change, and this was meant mostly to get the ball rolling, not to be the definitive version for all time. Feel free to fix, mutilate, or viciously advocate that it remain stagnant.
