Proposal: Add a new rule to the ruleset entitled: Bribes

A crook can pay $50 as a bribe to add 1 to any DICE roll, he can do this up to 3 times per ROLL considering you have enough money to do so. Each time a crook attempts a bribe, he must also roll a DICE20, if it is 19 or 20 the bribe has failed and the crook loses all of his money.

Putting the “Add a new rule” part in the proposal title is unusual, but should be effective. (Even in a certain other nomic with a rule “the body of the e-mail is what matters”, it was eventually judged that subject lines obviously intended to provide context are effective in doing so.)

against It works, but $50 is a massive amount of money, and it’s not clear how and when this applies to other people’s dice rolls. (I can apply the +1 to “any DICE roll”, but when do I have to do that? Can I add +1 to something Murphy rolled the day before?)

I was afraid the language wouldn’t be clear enough, obviously It made sense to me, but it was always my downfall in explaining my ideas to others through writing. I meant it as you could add 1 to your own roll, any roll, before or after the initial roll.

[Argon14] Sure, I thought that was probably what you meant, but in Nomic we play by a completely literal reading of the rules, rather than the intended spirit. (A lot of the game can be about finding - or deliberately creating - little loopholes like this. If this had been cheaper than $50 I might have voted it through in the hope that I was the only player to have spotted the loophole…)

[Kevan] that’s what I’m beginning to understand about the game, since I will be in law school in a few short years, it may be in my best interest to learn how to writer instructions more clearly. I originally was going to pitch the proposal for $30, but later changed it for reasons I know not.

veto Not because it’s bad, but because it’s quite important that Quantum Racers gets passed before tomorrow morning.
