Declaration of Victory: Ashes to Ashes

Enacted with 8 votes in favour, including that of the GPS. Congrats Zack! Josh

Adminned at 15 Jan 2022 23:03:09 UTC

According to the rule The Campfire at the End of Hell, “When one Tripper has more than half of the Coins that are in the game, that Tripper has achieved Victory.” There are currently 184 coins in the game, and I have 100 of them. Therefore, I have achieved victory.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair…

Checking whether Charity Box worked as intended with coinless players, I was surprised to see that it actually had an “(if they have 5)” clause, which wasn’t there when I posted my comment about it not being clear how it dealt with coinless voters.

Looking at the revision history it was edited a couple of minutes after its first vote, which means it could “no longer have any effect on the ruleset or the gamestate”.

against CoV.

Yikes!

Unpicking that more explicitly: if Charity Box has no effect, the 20 coins it moved to Zack remain with Josh, Raven, Redtara and TyGuy. There are 183 coins in circulation, meaning that a player needs 92 coins to win, and Zack only has 80.

(And even if we generously read Josh’s “You are my jellicle choice” and TyGuy’s “Giving 15 Coins to Zack” wiki edits to both mean “I give all of my coins to Zack”, Zack would still only have had 90 at the time of the DoV.)

If Charity Box was illegally edited but someone still enacted it anyway, it kind of feels like a bunch in the gut that not only did I not achieve victory, but I’ll be DoV locked for five days thanks to something I couldn’t possibly have known in a game with no secrets.

Yeah, you got nomiced pretty hard here.

If I were you I’d put up a CfJ attempting to resolve the situation in your favour.

This seems harsh.

arrow what silverwing said

especially the comment from Kevan trying to litigate it as “Well we should undo this one action, but not all the other actions people took thinking the original action was legal”

standard precedent in that scenario tends to be either to just play on, or reset everything from the moment the original illegal action took place.

@SW It’s not intended to be; technicalities are a part of the game, and it doesn’t mean that the DoV doesn’t work, it just means that we have to find a way around the technicalities. The two CfJs that are up are each attempting to do that; Zack’s by resolving the technicalities (which I recommend), Clucky’s by ignoring them (which I don’t). If either of those CfJs passes before this fails then this can be enacted again, but in the meanwhile, the rules are pretty clear on the matter; you can only vote FOR a DoV if you believe its poster has achieved Victory, and as it stands, Zack probably hasn’t.

CoV against  Zack can’t currently win but if something changes that I’m all for it.

> Every Tripper may cast Votes on that DoV to indicate agreement or disagreement with the proposition that the poster has achieved victory in the current Dynasty.

Technically there is nothing in the rules that say *how* your vote indicates agreement or disagreement with the proposition that the poster achieved victory in the current dynasty

this all just seems like a very silly and unnecessary delay of the game.

for CoV. For what it’s worth, I do not at all think it is the case that Zack got “nomicked pretty hard;” I think it is very much the case that everyone who wrote the rules of this dynasty, and played it with intention to win throughout, got blognomicked much harder.
