Proposal: Badump

Passes quorum 9-0 and is enacted -SingularByte

Adminned at 20 Jun 2022 21:48:24 UTC

Add a new dynastic rule called The Heartbeat Of Creation, with the following text:

The Heartbeat of Creation is a publicly tracked integer which defaults to 0.

At 00:01 UTC each Monday and Thursday the Heartbeat of Creation increases by 1; any Demiurge may update the tracking at any time to ensure that it is up to date.

Some actions are Beat Actions. The total number of Beat Actions undertaken by each Demiurge in the dynasty so far is publicly tracked; whenever a Demiurge takes a Beat Action they must increase their Beat Action tracker accordingly. Beat Actions may be undertaken at any time with the restriction that a Demiurge may not at any time have undertaken more Beat Actions than the current Heartbeat of Creation.

The one thing I’m cautious of here is that you might have people sitting and leaving the beat actions unused since they’d be too valuable to spend early on.

While it’s admittedly very on-theme for an rpg, I’d prefer there to be a limit on how many you can stockpile at any one time.

would rather just have daily actions

what uses do you have in mind for this?

The problem with daily actions is that it brings in timing scams and first/last mover advantages, as well as encouraging grind mechanics.

The work done on comparison of action systems is worth considering here.

I think that stockpiling can be defeated through other mechanics - making moving between locations a free action but Sculpting Flesh Into Life a Beat Action, for example, such that actual progress is gated behind using Beat Actions in a subsidiary way.

Looks like it’d be possible to have some kind of wiki code (that’s just a quick proof of concept as “once every four days”) handle the Heartbeat tracking automatically if we wanted it to.
