Story Post: Barrels Unloaded at Coppers, or, the Kinetics of Yield

Adminned at 23 Jul 2025 20:00:50 UTC

A genre of game that BlogNomic has never really considered is arcade action-puzzle video games, things like Tetris, Puzzle-Bobble, Dr Mario, Wilmot’s Warehouse, or indeed, the original Donkey Kong, in which a giant ape yeeted barrels at an oncoming plumber. This dynasty will consider that space - how to systematise, in a blog format, the sense of ordering, sorting and evading, with or without the pressure of a ticking clock, while playing as policemen of Scotland Yard on the trail of a rogue cooper and his barrel cannon. Certainly more of a sandbox dynasty than anything else.

Score 3. This feels a little hallucinatory. Is Donkey Kong really an action-puzzle game? Is the dynasty simulating an existing format from videogaming, or creating an unregulated sandbox? Is it about coppers or coopers?

Score 2. the two separate titles split by an “or” kinda feels like it defeats the point of the backronyms to me. The theme itself seems fun but nothing too special.

Score 3, interesting idea but clunky title

Score 3 as the acronym works but a dynasty about shooting cannons at police officers - and “unloading barrels” is a common term for an artillery salvo - is not one I’d want to play.

Score 2 - In general this doesn’t make a ton of sense to me

Score 1. Buzzword 7 contains POSER in some order so COPPERS is a fish here for a point. And gotta punish the fish.

feedback wise I am meh about heavy rules in general - it is hard to parse video-game logic into nomic rules; if such a dynasty happens is it possible to only take aspects you love but not the whole game?

Score 3. I like the pun on cooper and copper, but not the other parts.

Score 4. The backronym might have made more sense if it straightforwardly about shooting guns at the police; the contrived barrel-tossing business doesn’t really hit, but fortunately we don’t have to assess the flavour text. A Statham-Richie dynasty where everyone talks like a drawling east-end gangster has some appeal.

This Backronym is now closed.

“Coppers” including all of the letters of the Buzzword in the 7th position.

Josh gained 6 Points from the median Score (doubled due to Endgame) and 1 Point from a title word including all of the letters of a Buzzword.
