Proposal: Brinksmanship

Vetoed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 03 Oct 2011 02:00:21 UTC

Create a new Dynastic Rule titled “Brinksmanship”:

Each Artist is either Well-Fed (default) or Starving, tracked in the GNDT.  As a Weekly Action, an Artist may become Well-Fed or Starving.

When a Starving Artist would gain X Acclaim, he instead gains X*1.2 Acclaim.  When a Starving Artist would lose X Acclaim, he instead loses X*1.5 Acclaim.

Amend the Rule titled “Critical Acclaim” by replacing the first paragraph with:

All Artists have a score, tracked in the GNDT, entitled Acclaim. Acclaim must be a nonnegative decimal number and defaults to zero for new Artists.

I hope the substitution isn’t recursive (1.2*1.2*X etc.)

for I don’t love the use of decimals here, but having neither status as obviously superior is a good feature.

against I think this needs an exception to stop it triggering itself. (“Instead of gaining 10 Acclaim, you gain 12 Acclaim, then instead of gaining 12 Acclaim, you gain 14.4 Acclaim, then instead of gaining 14.4 Acclaim…”)

against since well-fed is the default.

I really have to get used to BlogNomic embracing both pragmatism and literalism.

veto OK, if there’s some question of this going infinite then I’ll have to Veto it, but please do repropose it with a clause to prevent recursion.

(Maybe it would be good to have a generic safety net for this kind of thing which prevents the same replacement effect applying more than once to the same event, as seen in various CCGs?)

against Encourages timing scams at the week boundary, especially as “Critical Acclaim” recharges weekly.
