In the rule “Style”, add “Broom” to the list of Staff styles.

To “Special Styles”, add:-

Broom
Benefit: When you cast Gather, you gain 3 Stars instead of DICE3 Stars from it.

In the rule “Upgrade”, replace:

  • “Depends on the Style” with “Depends on the type of Style”
  • “One of the Style types of Hat, Robes, Staff, or Beard” with “A Special Style”
  • “The Style of the Wizard casting this Spell is changed to the Special Style corresponding to the type chosen in the Inputs.” with “The Wizard’s Style for whichever type corresponds to the Input is changed to the Input.”

you’d have to edit the Upgrade spell as well, since it only takes a “type of style” as input right now

Is it not enough to define Broom as a style of Staff, as I’ve done here?

I’d argue that Hat, Staff, Robes and Beard are types of Style, while individual Styles are just Styles

Oh, right, Upgrade was written under the assumption of only one special per type, I see what you mean. I hadn’t noticed that the four current ones happened to be four different types.

Proposal updated to make Upgrade more general.

Why do we need another special Staff?

If the point is to get rid of the last random spell effect, why not just address that directly?

This feels… weirdly specific? Like, it really feels like one of those proposals with a hidden scam where it adds something innocuous and a slight rule change but the rule change secretly breaks something. But if there’s a scam here, I’m not seeing one, it’s just a staff that gives +1 expected value to one specific spell and rewriting the rules to allow for two special staves to exist at the same time.
