Proposal: [Core] Timeout time out

Timed out 2 votes to 4. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 23 Dec 2021 17:19:15 UTC

After

An Admin may render a Tripper Idle if that Tripper has asked to become Idle in an entry or comment from the past 96 hours (4 Days), or if that Tripper has not posted an entry or comment in the past 168 Hours (7 days)

add ” for which BlogNomic has not been in hiatus.”

Also what happens if we have a 7 day hiatus sometime?

It’s still legal to post comments during hiatus, so we’d survive a seven day one.

Makes sense to apply this to the festive break, but I’m not sure it’s worth the fiddly timing created by other hiatuses: if an admin is about to time someone out near the start of a dynasty or shortly after a failed DoV, they’d have to measure the recent hiatus(es) and calculate accordingly.

Yeah calculating how much time we were in hiatus for seems annoying

You can just round up to the nearest day if you don’t want to calculate

That’s still creating a several-hour window where quorum is higher than it needs to be (and proposals are possibly not being passed) because none of the admins wants to calculate the timeout.

Really, though, there’s no reason why the bulk of regular DoV hiatuses should affect idling out. If a DoV was made and voted on with whatever outcome, and a player didn’t vote on it, that should still count against the yardstick of deciding whether that person is still playing. (Particularly at the start of a new dynasty, when a player who’s left without saying goodbye will be slowing down the enactment of fundamental proposals for the new round.)

I guess I don’t see “a several-hour window where quorum is higher than it needs to be” as an overly significant problem ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The problem this is fixing is even smaller. Yes, we should probably exempt Seasonal Downtime from the idle timeout since there’s nothing to do and it’s an unambiguous block of three full days.

But apart from that, what’s the problem that this small admin speedbump is fixing? That if a player votes on a DoV and then waits for the new dynasty to start, and then actually does nothing for the next six days, it’s important not to count the part of their nothing that was during Hiatus in case they come back on the seventh day after all?
