Reword the final paragraph of Rule 2.1.1.2 (Military Occupations) to read:

If a Villager has an Occupation which is listed in the “Military” section of the linked page, then they are trained in the art of combat, and are able to defend themselves from werewolves, subtracting 2 from the result when attacked.

Add a new subrule to Rule 2.2 (Items), called ‘Silver Bullets’:

If a Villager has a gun in his possession, he is able to defend himself from a werewolf attack, subtracting 1 from the result. If he also has at least one silver bullet in his possession, he subtracts a further 3 from the result, and removes one silver bullet from his possession.

Reword the fourth paragraph of Rule 2.3 (Werewolves) to read:

If it is Nighttime, if no Werewolves are Prisoners, if two or more living Werewolves have the same target, if those Werewolves have not killed anyone since the most recent Daytime, if their target is still Alive, and if the target does not successfully defend himself in accordance to any applicable rules, then the Mayor may post a blog entry announcing that their target has been killed. That Villager is now Dead.

Add a new subrule to Rule 2.3 (Werewolves), called ‘Defense from Werewolves’:

If a villager is able to defend himself from a werewolf attack, due to the effects of any rules, then if attacked by werewolves, the Mayor rolls DICE20, and cumulatively adds or subtracts any modifiers to the result as required by those effects. On a result of 13 or greater, the werewolf attack is processed as normal. On a result of 6-12 the villager escapes, but no further actions are required, and the targets of all werewolves involved in the attack are changed to no one. On a result of 1-5 the villager escapes with a clue as to the identity of the werewolves. This clue consists of a single letter which is in the name of one of the werewolves. On a result of less than 1, the villager manages to kill 1 random werewolf, decided in whatever fashion the Mayor deems acceptable.

A fairly good idea, but it fundamentally changes a lot of the game, and relies on DICE…

the mechanic of defense is the same as what’s already there (although currently only for military personnel); i just shuffled it a bit, and added a reason for silver bullets.

personally, i don’t really like the dice bit myself, but that was already there. i was just trying to change things incrementally, rather than completely rewriting the rules.

against We’re going to end up with a game of Werewolves where nobody dies.  This is less fun than the alternative.

against Too many dice. The game should be about guessing motives and reasons, not guessing dice rolls.
