Proposal: Disincentives for Hoarding

Timed out 3-5.—Yoda

Adminned at 06 May 2011 19:56:06 UTC

If the proposal “The Most Powerful Force In The Universe” passes, this proposal does nothing.

Add the following text to the end of the rule “Currency”:

At the beginning of each week at exactly 00:00 on Monday (UTC), the Currency of each Investor shall automatically be multiplied by 0.9 (any Investor may update the GNDT to reflect this).

According to Travis’ idea, this provides an alternative to Purplebeard’s proposal.  This should stimulate buying and trading stocks more often rather than sitting on your money.

The prospect of dividends from the shares you hold should be incentive enough.

I think the main problem is that there’s not enough shares held by the Investors right now, so everyone is just trying to buy up as much as they can.  Like right now, the only company that can actually pass a shareholder meeting is Rules and Co because the Market holds > 50 shares of every other company.  Once the Market sells off most of the remaining shares, then stuff can start happening with the different companies, which will result in more shares being bought and sold.

A solution to the above problem: PB can already put buy/sell orders up on his row of the GNDT.  I recommend that he put up at least enough shares of every corporation so that he would hold < 50 shares of each.  Even at an exorbitant price like $20 per share, people will buy so that we can keep things going.

That’s actually not a bad idea, although anyone who wants to start investing can start up new Corporations if they want.

There, all my shares are up for sale for 30 Credits each. Since new Corporations cost 15 Credits per share to found, and the existing ones have around 10 Worth per share, this is slightly less efficient than startups.

Or selling 22 batches of 5 Shares @ 8$ to anyone requesting - no more than a batch per person. It’s a deal, but it’s to get things going, and it’s just a little 5%

This isn’t the Soviet Union, son.

What’s the problem with the soviet union? :P
It was just a little protectionism to get things going, not a planned economy.
Better than giving the whole control of a company to an only Investor, isn’t it?
