Proposal: Double Time

Timed out 2-3, failed by Angry Grasshopper.

Adminned at 23 Apr 2006 07:24:29 UTC

Rewrite the rule Temporal Effects to read as follows:

For the purposes of game play, a Circadian Cycle is the following:

A Game Day of M hours, which is followed by a Midlight Period of R hour(s), which is followed by a Game Night of N hours, which is followed by another Midlight Period of R hour(s).

Midlight is the mysterious time between day and night, and between night and day.

This rule becomes operative after a sidebar widget indicating whether the game is in Game Day, Game Night, or Midlight Period, after which this sentence is removed.

Set M = N = 5. Set R = 1.

I think the period should be longer.  I tried to indicate 9 hours on the previous version, but I apparently wasn’t explicit enough.

Oh, and as worded, this is ineffective once the widget gets working since there is nothing in the ruleset to tie the cycle to the changing of the picture.  Given the wording, we could have multiple Cycles running at once and be in Day, Midlight and Night at the same time.

Shouldn’t the Rule already read this way???  At least 4 comments on the prop that already passed included the required phrase, so this rewrite should have already taken place, no?

Sorry, but who enacted “Repropose! With Extra.” ???

“6-1, timed out. Enacted by the ninth.”

Not an admin, as far as I can tell.

Uh oh. That was me. I’ll be fixing it, now.

But of the comments whose votes were counted, i.e. the last vote of each Monk, only two had the magic phrase.

Bucky and Thelonious revoted.

Well, whenever I take a set of actions in Blognomic, it rarely takes more than half an hour to read the Ruleset, figure out what I can do, then change the GNDT.

This allows 4 periods of Midlight each day.

Oh, I would have figured “the ninth” was you, but I mentally pronounce “ee lee ass icks” whenever I read your screenname.  I see now about the revotes in the other proposal. for But whether this proposal passes or not, it seems we’ll need something like “A Circadian Cycle begins at 4am and at 4pm every day” to actually get anything out of this sort of rule.  As is, even if the sidebar widget gets put up, we merely get some of “Game Day”, “Game Night”, “Circadian Cycle”, and “Midlight Period” defined (along with some instructions about which ones follow which other ones).

Bucky:

The cycle wouldn’t be tied to the Ruleset.  There are an infinite number of cycles meeting that description running at once.

So, I could take a “Day” action by saying it is Game Day in the cycle beginning five minutes ago.

I could do this any time I want to take a “Day” action.

I did specify 9 as the number from the last proposal, though, by declaring that it had the plurality.

I like longer periods myself.
