DRAFT Negativity

Edited to explicitly allow negativity 1813 UTC 1/10/12
Edited to remove integral 1944 UTC 1/10/12
Change, in the rule “Swag”, the text:

“Criminals have Wealth, Respect, and Firepower, non-negative integral statistics tracked in the GNDT, each defaulting to 500.”

to

“Criminals have Wealth and Firepower as non-negative integers tracked in the GNDT, each defaulting to 500.

Criminals have Respect as integers tracked in the GNDT which can be positive or negative and defaults to 500. Any Assisted Action that requires a Criminal to pay, spend, or lose their own respect cannot be performed if it would result in that player’s Respect valuing below 0.”

After some discussion with other players and our Don, to avoide potential looping scams, make respect be able to go negative.

It’s already in rule 3.3.1: Unless otherwise specified, game variables defined to hold numeric values can hold only non-negative integers, and any action that would set those values below zero is an illegal action unless explicitly otherwise stated in the ruleset.

The point is that allowing it to go negative is “otherwise specifying”, so a weird special case is needed.

@Chronos, notice the key use of “their own”

Have edited to explicitly allow negativity.

also, I think the correct word is “integer”, not “integral”

“Of, pertaining to, or being an integer.” ~ Wiktionary.

It’s dangerous sying a number is an integral…

From: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Integral.html

An integral is a mathematical object that can be interpreted as an area or a generalization of area. Integrals, together with derivatives, are the fundamental objects of calculus.

I think these guys are pragmatic if I recall correctly, but fair enough, its not my wording and I don’t my changing it. I’ll edit to remove integral.
