Proposal: Drama of Documents

Timed out and failed, 2-4 with 1 unresolved DEF. Josh

Adminned at 29 Nov 2023 21:17:00 UTC

If Heirs have age, add a new rule called “Falsifying Documents” with the following text:

An Heir, as an Act of Subterfuge, can change their age to match the age of the heir with the highest age.

The eldest starts with a high random advantage this can remove it, but you are sacrificing yourself somewhat

For actions that don’t need to be hidden, players can generally enact them on their own without needing to go through the Emperor. Last dynasty specifically had hidden/simultaneous orders, which is why Clucky would aggregate and resolve them himself, but the gamestate wiki can actually be edited by any player.

Oh. Okie! I removed the “by sending a message to the Old King” part then. I think I was thinking that it should be more hidden, but I didn’t think it through I guess :D

imperial I’m not super invested in this, just wanted to make sure I could do it and such because it IS nomic

My feeling on this is that while it’s a valid proposal, I’m not quite seeing how someone could claim to be a different age in-universe. A couple of years is easy enough, but a close relative suddenly being 50 years older would be bizarre.

I guess the real narrative question is why we’re limited by the age of someone else in the group. Why can’t I pretend to be 90 (or hire an elderly peasant to pretend to be me, etc.) if I really want to?

I don’t quite understand what would be the downside of performing such action. Does having low age have some benefit?

The downside is in the Stain Upon Your Honour proposal: You lose 4 reputation from changing your age as an Act of Subterfuge.

CoV per the possible “long-shot scam” on claiming that the King has Perished, that Josh points out on Rules of Succession and which he says he would be “compelled to vote for”.

Right now SingularByte is the only player who could try any version of this scam, being Age 52 and having the Eldest Claim; this proposal would allow any player (although in practice probably just the enacting admin) to set their Age to 52 and give it a go as well.

I’d like to see a mechanic for challenging Claims. I’ve been trying to think of a way to do that.

I would absolutely vote against any DoV claiming that I have Perished when I am, in fact, quite alive.

I suppose the in-flavor explanation for a change in age isn’t pretending to be older by putting on a fake beard, it’s falsifying records to say “yep, I’m actually 50, look at my birth date, yes, I just look young for my age”.

against doesn’t really make narrative sense to me to change your age
