Proposal: End of the Line

Withdrawn. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 06 Jan 2022 10:10:57 UTC

In “Movement”, replace “then any other Tripper may move the Ready Tripper to the Starting Point with the highest Order number among all Starting Points” with:-

then any other Tripper may move the Ready Tripper to the Starting Point with the highest Order number among all Starting Points (if that Starting Point is after the Ready Tripper’s current Location) or the Stop with the highest Order number (if there is no Starting Point after the Ready Tripper’s current Location)

Timing out after the last starting point shouldn’t move you backwards.

I smell a scam to try and move to a Roadside Attraction if it happens to be the last stop

I’m also not sure where the “move backwards” thing is coming from

Moving backwards is what happens if you time out while everyone is past the last Starting Point. (You get moved to the last starting point.)

Doesn’t “Unless otherwise specified, a Tripper’s Location may not change to a Stop which is before the Stop named in their current Location.”

overrule that? there is no clause that grants permission to move someone backwards when moving them to the last Starting Point, so I don’t think that counts as “otherwise specified”

I think “Unless otherwise specified” probably makes that clause meaningless.

But even if you read it as “players may never ever move backwards”, this proposal is still applying a fix - if we hit a situation where the backmost player has timed out further along than the last Starting Point, nothing would be able to happen under the current ruleset, we’d just sit there waiting even longer for the inactive player to take their move.

People can’t time out on starting points. So this would actually create more of a problem because it moves them off a starting point onto a place where they can time out and slow down the game.

People can time out on Starting Points, can’t they? The “(ignoring all Starting Points)” is about which stops to check back over when you’re working out if a specific player is Waiting, you still check every player to see if they’re Waiting.

The other problem this was intended to head off was that if I’m ahead of the last Starting Point and Ready, timing out and being moved backwards (if, as I think is the case, players can be moved backwards) would always be the best move.

Starting Over will fix that, though, by giving Brendan 48 hours to create a new Starting Point, once the backmost player has none ahead of them.

against So I’ll Withdraw this, as it’ll just add ruleset clutter.
