Proposal: Give meaning to defeat

s/k’ed.—Yoda

In the dynastic rule “Ressources” change the sentence

As a weekly action, a Farmer may Harvest by adding 100 to their Sun.

to

As a weekly action, a Farmer may Harvest either by adding 100 to their Sun or, if their Defeated value equals to 1, by adding 30 to their Juice.

My aim with this is to give “Defeated” some more meaning than just being a variable, but still keep everyone pretty much involved in everything. I also think this makes it easier on new players (or unidlers) who start defeated, because they can choose to make Juice from the start (with the cost of not having much Sun to plant in their own patch). It’s not easy to get Juice production running, which is a must if you want to win and are defeated.

I wanted to use the words Perform Juicy Rituals, but I also wanted to keep the effect of Sunflowers and I wanted a short and clean proposal. I would really appreciate any comment on any flaw you can see with this proposal. Is the Defeated-condition worded correctly?

against Then there’s no way for new farmers to generate sun.  They start out with none and can’t get any by harvesting.

I’d like to use this comment to apologize if I stepped on someone’s toe (repeatedly). While I did not like the way Ely’s proposals were being treated, I believe that there were no bad intentions involved, but that some mistakes were just unnoticed before. I am sorry if I gave a broad hint at personal grudges when there were none involved. So: Sorry, folks, I am new at this and I know that I can sometimes get very involved in debates. I hope you can handle me.

Also, now I do get updates if someone votes or comments here. :-)

Yoda: Hm, I may have formulated that the wrong way: I wanted to make it so that defeated Farmers have the choice wether or not they want to gain Sun or Juice while harvesting….

That was the point. Is that not correctly formulated?

against I read it as giving farmers a choice.  However, I don’t see the point.  After making an initial investment, it’s easy to convert 100 Sun to 100 Juice.

aguydude: And by ‘initial investment’ you mean building a shed for half your first harvest and plant 5 Deadwood (or anything that has cost 10) with your second half, all on the same square, then waiting for a week, harvest again and plant something on the last Deadwood, thus gaining a Juicer, with which you can convert Sun into Juice by planting Tomatoes?

Point taken. Wow, I really did not see that…. :-/

And darn, again no idea what I could propose. It has to do something with ‘Defeated’ and give it some meaning. I just don’t like being dead and continuing as usual…

mideg: Um, you can convert Deadwood to wood instantly by planting them on top of each other.

Yes, it’s an expensive initial investment, but given the choice of either getting 60 juice after two weeks or 50 Juice after 2 weeks and 100 juice after each additional week, I really don’t think 30 Juice per week is very much.

You’re mostly caught up after the 2nd week and incredibly far ahead after that.  If you still have a good chunk of resources left after being defeated, it’s even better.

aguydude: Yeah, I know. Which I said. But to get a juicer, you need 50 wood, true? With a small shed and 4 deadwoods - since you have nothing to plant on the fifth - you only have 40 wood.

Hm, I guess you could spend the first 10 wood and the sun of your 2nd harvest to get a shed.
1st week (100 sun):
Buy shed (-50 sun)
Plant 5 deadwood on top of each other (+40 wood, -50 sun)

2nd week (100 sun, 40 wood):
Buy large shed (-40 sun, -10 wood)
Plant 1 tomatoe on top of the deadwood (-10 sun, +20 wood)
Buy Juicer (-50 wood)
Juice Tomatoe (+10 juice)
Plant 5 tomatoes and juice them (+50 Juice)

3rd week (100 sun, 60 Juice, convert Sun->Juice 1:1, convert Sun->Wood almost 1:2)

I see why my proposal fails. :-)

One could even improve this by keeping some of the Sun in the 2nd week….

mideg: Your speed juice generation plan is suboptimal.  You only want to plant 1 deadwood initially (and then a tomato on top of it).  Once you have a large shed, then you can plant more deadwood.  Or just use 6 deadwood and stick with a small shed.

Hm, I thought I said that with my add-on-comment. :-)
