Revert Kevan’s undoing of Brendan’s Huddle action (which undoing took place at 11:37 on 12 February 2023‎).

Reword the sentence in the rule “Heat” that begins “At any time, a Villager may Huddle…” to:

At any time, a Villager may Huddle by spending 3 Time to transfer 0.1 Heat to themselves from any Villager who both shares a Location with the Huddling Villager and has more Heat than the Huddling Villager.

It would seem that two or more players actively disagree as to the interpretation of the Ruleset.

Huddling is certainly a mysterious law of physics in our particular universe, but changing it from the target having to have “the most Heat” (however you or I are reading that) to the broader “more Heat” is going beyond clarification and into a potentially significant functional change.

“More Heat” makes more sense intuitively, is easier to specify without getting into “unless there is more than one Villager with the most in which case etc etc” language, and should end up effectively very much the same if Location Capacity ever comes to mean anything.

It’s a good way to write the rule from scratch! It’s just not what either of our readings of the rule would mean, so this CfJ is a combo of “was Brendan right to do this” and “should Huddling also have more targets”.

Which you’re welcome to run for a vote, I’m just noting it.

I don’t think Brendan was right to interpret “the Villager with the most Heat in their Location” as meaning a Villager of his choice from among those tied for most Heat, as the rule is written.

And I don’t think Huddling should have more targets, and a greater freedom of selection among those extra targets.

I’m not upset about expanding the targets. After all, there’s nothing limiting a Villager from exercising this multiple times, so even if there was only one target Villager that fit the criteria for the current Huddle action, one could spend the time to drain enough Heat from that Villager such that there were no ties and only one new Villager would fit the criteria for a subsequent Huddle action. Rinse and repeat until the effect is nearly the same or the acting Villager runs out of Time or becomes the Villager with the most Heat in the Location.

against  I’d have been happy enough with it targetting the people with the joint highest heat, but this wording allows you to specifically target a player. It would be relatively simple to intentionally freeze yourself to drain a player of your choice.

Go outside. Go inside. Huddle a specific person to drain them. It wouldn’t help the person doing it, but could be viable as a last minute pooling action, if you need to reduce the heat of a competitor in a close race.

That really seems like a reach to me, SingularByte. “Go outside, go inside” sounds simple, but you need a minimum of 40 Time to do that—and therefore almost two days of taking no actions—leaving you a maximum of 20 time to spend Huddling. If you’re not already Cold, that’s what, .6 degrees of Heat transfer? And you still can’t bring your target down to a Heat level less than 0.1 degrees lower than your own.

The concept you’re describing effectively already exists in a much more efficient form: you can Grapple someone to move them Outdoors for only 50 Time, and under current rules, even with a jacket, they’d lose a minimum of .9 Heat going back to an Indoors Location, while you lose no Heat doing it. I’m not sure why you’re raising the specter of “last minute pooling actions” for a dynasty that has Mantle Limitations active and no victory condition set.
