Proposal: let’s tighten this ship

Passed 13-0, reaches Quorum. 5 votes for bold, 4 for underline, 1 for square brackets. 7 are needed to change Z, going with boldface. Enacted by Angry Grasshopper

Add a bullet point to section 3.1 of the ruleset, “Typographic Conventions”:

Words in section 2 of the ruleset using a definition derived from section 2 of the ruleset rather than an English definition should be Z, and a reference to the rule (if it is not the rule containing the word and the word has not been already referenced in the rule) that defines the word appended to it.

Change rule 2.1, “Cheese” from:

Any time a Swashbuckler does something especially noteworthy in the cause of improving the core ruleset of blognomic, or which is otherwise cool or neat, or maybe even which involves making cool new gadgets for blognomic, or stuff, let him be awarded a wheel of cheese. Cheese may only be awarded by proposal, or, if on any proposal more than one-half of the counted voting comments include the word ‘cheese’, the proposer recieves one cheese. No Swashbuckler may have more than 10 cheeses.

Any time a Gostak does something especially noteworthy in the cause of improving the core ruleset of blognomic, or which is otherwise cool or neat, or maybe even which involves making cool new gadgets for blognomic, or stuff, let him be awarded a wheel of cheese. Cheese may only be awarded by proposal, or, if on any proposal more than one-half of the counted voting comments include the word ‘cheese’, the proposer recieves one cheese. No Gostak may have more than 10 cheeses.

Change rule 2.3, “The Building” to:

The Building is a multistory building with floors numbered by nonnegative integers starting at 1 on the top floor and ending at 20 on the bottom floor, to motivate Gostaks to reach the top, as if the floors indicated a ranking system. Gostaks may not move to any level on a floor above 20 unless permitted to do so by another rule.

If a Gostak is the only Gostak on a floor that is named only by its number, then that Gostak may add to the name of the floor by adding a hyphen followed by the desired floor name. Floor names may not be more than four words long.

New Gostaks start at 20th Floor - Lobby.

* 1st Floor:
* 2nd Floor - Senior Management: Any Gostak on this floor may have three proposals pending.
* 3rd Floor - Human Resources: Any Gostak on this floor may move any other Gostak in The Building to 20-Lobby. The Edge.
* 4th Floor:
* 5th Floor:
* 6th Floor:
* 7th Floor:
* 8th Floor:
* 9th Floor:
* 10th Floor:
* 11th Floor:
* 12th Floor:
* 13th Floor - The Nonexistent Floor: No Gostak may ever be on this floor.
* 14th Floor:
* 15th Floor - Prison:
* 16th Floor:
* 17th Floor:
* 18th Floor:
* 19th Floor:
* 20th Floor - Lobby: This is the bottom floor of The Building.

If the proposal “The tragedy of the doshcommons” passes, change the rule it creates to:

Any Gostak at the Distimmery [2.3] may Distim a Dosh. To do this, e rolls DICEX+Y+Z where X is the number of number of Gostaks at the Distimmery, Y is the number times e has Distimmed a Dosh that day, and Z is the number of Shiny Demons. After doing so, e gains one unit of Distimmed Dosh.

The Shiny Demons do not like the Gostaks and their attempts to Distim Doshes. If the result of the dice roll required to Distim is greater than Quorum, then a Shiny Demon appears. The number of Shiny Demons is listed in the GNDT under Shiny Demons in the Distimmed Dosh column.

If both the above proposal, and the proposal “Podules” are passed, change the rule the latter creates to:

  Any Gostak with a positive number of Dosh [2.4] may decrease that number by one to create a Podule. When a Podule is created, it is entered into the Ruleset under the Podules subrule “Active Podules”. Any Podule that is outside of the subrule “Active Podules” shall have no effect on the rules or gamestate.

  No Podule may contain more than two clauses, nor may a Podule be longer in length than one sentence. All Podules must be grammatical and free from errors in spelling and punctuation. All Podules must contain the name of the Gostak that created them at the end of the sentence, in italics and enclosed by parentheses. A Podule may optionally be given an italic title on creation.

  In the case that a Podule contradicts or is otherwise in conflict with any Rule or Law, precedence shall always be given to the Rule or Law in question.

  Podules may not:

      * Give or take Dosh from any Gostak, or specify that Dosh be given or taken from any Gostak at a future time.
      * Specify or alter any conditions of victory, or establish conditions under which victory cannot be declared.
      * Define or re-define existing Ruleset terminology.
      * Change or entail the change of any state that is recorded in the GNDT.
      * Move or otherwise alter rule text.
      * Specify conditions on the creation of new podules

  Any Gostak with a positive number of Dosh may decrease that number by one to move any Podule that is listed under the Podule subrule “Active Podules” to the subrule “Inactive Podules”.

If more than half of all comments containing counted votes also contain the text “Z =” followed by one method by which text can be formatted, replace Z above with that method, and use that method to format all text in boldface in this rule, replacing boldface if necessary.
If this is not the case; if there is not a majority of one method of formatting, replace Z by “in bold”.

The reason for the Z is that if a majority of people feel that bold is too cumbersome, Z can be something like “between square brackets”, “prefixed by an asterisk”, “crossed out”, etc. and then the rules can be changed to say [Dosh] or *Dosh or Dosh, etc., respectively.

I’m aware that “the building” becomes very, very awkward, but that’s because I think a lot of it (the description of the building) should be flavor text to begin with.

Clarifications can be made in comments.

for Z = in bold

I may CoV the Z part if it looks like people like the idea but hate that specific part.

Mm, this is useful. Also a good idea (but tedious for you) to have highlighted some of the terms already in the ruleset.

I like this idea very much.
