Proposal: Local Militia

Passed 4-0-5 - Enacted by Chivalrybean

Adminned at 19 Oct 2007 22:05:37 UTC

Create a new sub-rule of Occupations “Military Occupations” with the text:

If a Villager has an Occupation which is listed in the “Military” section of the linked page, then they are trained in the art of combat, and if they ever become the target of the Werewolves, the Mayor rolls 1DICE20.  On a result of 15-20 the target continues as normal.  On a result of 8-14 the villager escapes, but no further actions are required, and the targets of all werewolves are change to no one.  On a result of 2-7 the villager escapes with a clue as to the identity of the werewolves.  This clue consists of a single letter which is in the name of one of the werewolves.  On a result of 1 the villager manages to kill 1 random werewolf, decided in whatever fashion the Mayor deems acceptable.

“if they ever become the target of the Werewolves,”

If there happens to be 3 werewolves, this might come into effect if as many as 2 target the villager, correct? Maybe it should say ‘all the werewolves’.

I don’t think the specific wording is a sticking point here. imperial Seems like fun, although perhaps a bit unbalanced.  Then again, we can probably expect a veto if we try to employ too many archers.

The problem is more that “becoming the target” and “being attacked” are quite different things - you can become their target during the Daytime. We can fix this in the first Town Meeting to recruit militia, though.

for But I’d like to see provisions for Mayoral announcements when a militiaperson escapes, gets a clue, etc.  Otherwise it’s handing too much lynch-directing power to the militia (“I got a clue, and it’s Z!”).

imperial Seems rather unbalanced.

The lynch-direction probably isn’t that strong - people will be aware that it could just be a clue from a lying werewolf, and the officer will have to choose between lying convincingly early (and risking someone showing up genuinely dead a few hours later), and not mentioning the attack until the next morning.
