General proposal advice: Proposals are instructions for a person (the enacting admin); the Ruleset is the instructions for how people play the game. The admin enacting this doesn’t know what to do, but if it were instead adding a rule to the Ruleset that then enables Pathfinders to choose their own occupations, then the admin knows what to do (add the rule), and then players know what to do (choose their occupations).

Yeah, this kind of thing needs to be written down somewhere, rather than being a choice that happens once and isn’t tracked. We could technically say “the Pathfinder who selected Leader when Occupations enacted” every time we wanted to write a rule about the Leader in future, but it’s a bit arduous. Typically we’d have a rule saying “Pathfinders have Occupations”, which says where we keep track of them.

It’s also not clear what the timing would be if everyone makes a decision “when this proposal is enacted”: some people will be asleep, and arguably even a player making the decision ten seconds after enactment would also be too late.

Not unidling.

The only user who would be able to make such a choice would be the enacting admin, but as the occupation would then be untracked, the effect would fizzle.

It is of vital importance that the author of this Proposal look at the way other Proposals are made – stating that there should be a new Rule and clearly delineating that Rule’s text from the rest of the Proposal, by use of blockquotes or otherwise – before attempting other Proposals.

Other Players should continue to vote down Proposals that do not meet basic standards.

[Tantusar] If you’re willing to constructively Mentor a new player who clearly needs some guidance and hasn’t been offered much, consider adding yourself to the Mentor list. We enacted that system for this exact reason.

If I may, I would suggest that this proposal be drafted as follows:

Add a new rule to the ruleset, called Jobs, with the following text:

Each Pathfinder has a Job, which is tracked on the Pathfinders wiki page and defaults to “none”. If a Pathfinder’s Job is “none” then they may set it to one of the following:

Leader (of which there may only be 1 of)

Second in command (of which there may only be 1 of)

Botanist

Physicist

Chemist

Researcher

Journalist

Feel free to PM me if you want or need any more advice or for me to walk you through the reasons for the differences between your version and mine.
