Proposal: Parallel Verse

Self-killed! -Elias IX

Adminned at 18 Jun 2006 07:45:15 UTC

[ The current laws allow Monks to gain Knowledge from vote-verses on their own proposals, but only if they cast an explicit and total-blurring vote. This proposal allows verses to be simply quoted in proposals themselves, for the same effect (and also tidies the rule slightly, and replaces the URL with one that isn’t dead). ]

Reword Law 2.6.2 (Knowledge) to:-

Knowledge is the measure of how much a Monk knows about Monking.

No Monk may have Knowledge more than 100. If a Monk’s Knowledge would be legally increased past 100, it becomes 100 instead. New Monks start with a Knowledge of 2.

Both votes and proposals may be accompanied by one or more relevant verses from the King James Bible (found at http://www.hti.umich.edu/k/kjv/). Within 24 hours of a proposal being Enacted or Failed, any Monk who attached a verse to the proposal or their vote on it may increase eir Knowledge by 1 (to a maximum of 1 per Proposal). However, if the Abbot believes a verse to be irrelevant, e may deduct 2 from its poster’s Knowledge.

And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly. (Deuteronomy 27:8)

against This seems like tinkering with the rules for tinkering’s sake.  Admin’s already cope with CoVs without problem.

Also, I think it’s better to keep the proposal clear from clutter.  The verse can come with an explicit vote later.

Note that if this proposal fails, you won’t get your knowledge bonus for it.

against Like Thelonious, I think attaching a verse to a proposal’s text makes for unecessary clutter.

Cunning verse for later.

There’s the flaw that this makes the verse part of the proposal text—and some verses could be interpreted as altering the gamestate.

against But… why would I propose a Bible verse?  I doubt I could find many that made sense as parts of a proposal.

imperial Useless vote, but knowledge is power.
