Proposal: Quick Resolutions

If “More tracking, less clutter hunting” was not enacted, enact it.

In the rule “Scoring”, replace the text “If the oldest Open Backronym was posted at least 48 hours ago, the Puzzler should perform a Resolving on that Backronym. A Resolving is an atomic action with the following steps:” with the following:

If the oldest Open Backronym was posted at least 48 hours ago, or if the oldest Open Backronym has a Scoring posted to it from every active Wordsmith other than it’s author, it should be resolved as a Votable Matter by the Puzzler. Resolving a Backronym is an atomic action with the following steps, in which any voting icons in the Comments on that Backronym are considered flavor text:

In the same rule, add the following bullet point as the last step in resolving a Backroynm:

* Mark that Backronym as Enacted

In the same rule, replace the text “Once the Puzzler has performed a Resolving on a Backronym, that Backronym is Closed.” with “Once a Backronym has been resolved, that Backronym is Closed. Any illegal Backronym may be resolved by any admin by marking it as illegal.”

Fixing the issue with resolving a Backronym early and making it more compatible with existing Votable Matter rules.

Also leaving open the possibility that we could use Voting Icons to actually perform functions for resolving Backronyms.

I worry what this means for pace of play. Right now, people know they can be active every 48 hours without slowing the game down. But with this, there would be the worry that you need to check more often than that to make sure you’d not the one slowing the game down

So far, everyone’s been pretty quick to Score everyone else’s Backronyms, so the 48-hour timer seemed to be better as a maximum than a minimum. If anyone is more comfortable with a 48-hour pace, then they are still free to wait that long.
