Proposal: Run It Back

In “Menus” replace “An Open Truck whose Menu contains at least three Dishes is also considered to be a Ready Truck” with a new paragraph of

(Today Only:) An Open Truck whose Menu contains at least three Dishes is also considered to be a Ready Truck

then below that paragraph add

(From Tomorrow:) Trucks may be Ready or Not Ready and by default are Not Ready (these values are exclusive, so any time a Truck becomes Ready it ceases to be Not Ready and vice versa). This value is privately tracked by the Yard. An open truck whose Menu whose Menu contains at least three Dishes may set themselves to be Ready as a Virtual Action. If it has been at least 48 hours since the latest Prep phase began, every Truck whose menu contains at least three Times becomes Ready.

In the Night atomic action replace “Wash up: Blank all Trucks’ Menus” with “(Today Only:) Wash up: Blank all Trucks’ Menus” then below that step add “(From Tomorrow:) Wash up: Set all Trucks to be Not Ready”

Add “(Today Only):” in front of the paragraphs beginning “If only one or two Open Trucks are not Ready Trucks” and “While the Slate count plus Closed Trucks is equal” in “Reminders”

I know Kevan doesn’t like forced timers, but the pace of play continues to be a drag on the dynasty. This makes it so that if you don’t get anything in within 48 hours you just gotta reuse your last menu. This could mean players are less incentivized to get menu changes in

I think in this case the use of a timer in this way just allows players to keep doing what they did last time, so it’s not so bad.

Yeah, afraid this is an against under the Timekeeper Style. Shutting the door after exactly 48 hours gives an advantage to those players and alliances who are online enough and in the right timezones to make the best use of that time, right up to the final minutes of it. It’s also oblivious to weekends (which are always quieter at BlogNomic) and any CfJs or faltering DoVs that might be in the air.

The sixth menu came in within just 20 minutes of me informally posting to the Discord that we’d only had five menus - and anybody could have posted that reminder, today or yesterday. I think the informal “so hey, who’s not played a card yet, what are we all waiting for?” boardgame model would work if we fostered more of a culture of it: JonathanDark made a helpful informal blog post earlier, but that’s maybe been it.

It seems healthier to encourage that table talk atmosphere than to introduce a spring-loaded timer that suits some players better than others, and which can be carefully worked into tactical plays, and then silently waiting to see who gets caught out by it.
