Proposal: Schrödinger’s Corpse

Replace the “If a Guest is Missing” bullet point in Rule 2.2 (Life and Death) with:-

If a Guest is Missing, they cannot become anything other than Missing, except through the Rule “Turning Up”.

If the proposal “I’m back” passed, add the following to the start of the Rule “Turning Up” (if it didn’t pass, create a new rule “Turning Up” with the following text):-

If a Guest is Missing, their Location becomes “?”, which is a valid Location, but not a Room. Two Missing guests are not considered to be in the same Room.

A Missing guest has an Actual State, tracked privately by the Executor. Their Actual State may be Healthy, Stunned, Wounded, Poisoned, Restrained, Terrified, Asleep, or Dead.

To the list of actions in Rule 2.6, add:-

  • Hide. Upon taking this Action, the hiding Guest becomes Missing and their Actual State becomes their health state prior to becoming Missing.
  • Conceal a named Guest (known as the Target) that they share a room with. Upon taking this Action, if the Target is present in the same room as the Guest concealing them and the Target has become Dead or Restrained since the lights last went out, then the Target becomes Missing and their Actual State becomes their health state prior to becoming Missing.

In Rule 2.12 (Silence), replace “If a Guest is Dead or Arrested” with:-

If a Guest is Dead, Missing or Arrested

In Rule 2.11 (The Reading of the Will), replace “For the purposes of this rule, Guests who are Dead or Arrested have 1000 added to their degree of relation.” with:-

For the purposes of this rule, Guests who are Dead, Missing or Arrested have 1000 added to their degree of relation.

Trying out a mechanic to enable Guests to go Missing - they can either hide when the lights are out, or have their body concealed if they’ve been recently killed or handcuffed. Being Hidden means that you can’t talk to other players, so if a Guest is killed and has their body concealed, they won’t even know themselves whether they’ve been murdered or restrained, until they return to play. (And if a Guest chooses to hide, they can’t then tell everyone that it’s okay, they’re just hiding. They can tell them before, but if the murderer overhears that…)

Minor waterproofing: Old bodies intentionally can’t be hidden, as hiding a body stops it from being able to communicate with other dead Guests. Missing Guests also get +1000 relation for the reading of the will, to prevent hiding from being a no-brainer cloaking device to avoid being murdered.

So the murder can, in one dark list, Kill someone, Wound, then Hide someone, Move to the basement and turn on the lights? (Assuming that the murder is also a servant this will not arouse suspicion right away) One murder can take out TWO people every time the lights go out? against

@tecslicer: You mean “murderer”. A murder is an instance of killing. A murderer is a person who kills.

Quite right. Quite right old boy. Would get very messy if a simple verb could do so much.

[tecslicer] No, you can only hide someone who’s already been killed or handcuffed.

Don’t know how I read “Wounded” instead of restrained, but CoV for

I like the proposal.
I like it better if it adds this line to the Rule 2.11 (The Reading of the Will):
One minute before the midnight of March 1st, 2010 all the Guests who are Missing because taking the Hide Action revert to their Actual State.
Sorry, I like plot-twists too much.
