Proposal: Secret Watchman

Reached quorum, eight votes to zero. Enacted by Kevan.

Adminned at 20 Oct 2007 14:42:27 UTC

In rule 2.1.1.2, replace

A Villager may only become the Night Watchman as a result of a Town Meeting.

with

If there is currently no Night Watchman, the Mayor shall randomly select one Living, Non-werewolf Villager, and secretly notify that villager of their new status. The status of Night Watchman is not an occupation, and, as such, it shall not be publicly tracked.

Then, re-number rule 2.1.1.2 as 2.7, leaving all other text unchanged.

The purpose of this proposal is to make the Night Watchman position useful, instead of a huge target.

for Although “non-werewolf” is a bit weird, thematically.

I’m not sure I understad what you mean, Kevan. Non-werewolf seemed the only succinct way to say something to the effect of “villager.werewolf=false”. See, even now I can only relate it as if were a programmer.

Something strange must be going on in the language center of my head.

Oh, the wording’s fine, it just seems thematically strange to guarantee that the watchman won’t be a werewolf. (And if I’m supposed to know who the werewolves are in character as Mayor, why would I avoid recruiting one as a watchman, when I could just propose to lynch them?)

Oh, I see…

It just sems like the villagers are getting a raw deal under the current ruleset. Even in regular Mafia, There is a sherrif-like figure who can be abolutely trusted, if you can figure out who they are. It seemed only fair that, since I can be certain that the werewolves can be trusted to do the worst for the villagers, that I should also be certain that there is a “caped crusader” I can trust completely.

It would spice things up with a werewolf watchman… until they are able to notice when a werewolf targets someone, then can find the other werewolf… if such things ever came to pass.

imperial i think it’s more likely realistically that people would know who the watchman was, and that e could be a werewolf, which would spice things up. from a game balance perspective, this makes perfect sense. from a villager’s perspective, this is a no-brainer. (until they come sniffing around my still…)
