Proposal: Stalemate

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Nov 2019 22:19:13 UTC

To the start of the final paragraph of “Battles”, add:-

If there is a Monster and all Adventurers (including the Monster) are either Recovering or Dead, the Monster ceases to be a Monster.

If the proposal Where Is Thy Sting? enacted, replace “Dead” with “Unconscious” in that sentence.

Having a Battle end if nobody is able to take a further Battle Action in it.

I don’t think this would work as intended… The current guidelines allow Recovering Adventurers to take Battle Actions absent any non-Recovering ones, and if the Monster is Recovering, one of them will be able to take a turn. Indeed, if this rule went into effect immediately, and TyGuy were Dead/Unconscious instead of Weary (which has no practical difference other than the prospect of Revival), the current Battle would simply end.  against

I do like the idea… But I’d rather see a rule “If the Monster is Recovering and all other Adventurers are either Weary or Dead, the Monster ceases to be the Monster”. (This could be accompanied by a tweak of the succession rules for Vanguards, to alter or omit the last step when the previous ones have yielded no results.)

against Good point, self-kill.

Ending a battle when everyone’s Weary/Dead seems too niche to ever actually happen. I was just trying to catch ahead of time the possible situation where either nobody can take legally an action or (as seems to have been the case with TyGuy6 voluntarily falling Weary) nobody wants to.

The final Battle is certainly going to grind to a halt when someone ends up faced with the fact that once they’ve taken their next action the dynasty will end.

Maybe at that point we can add a voluntarily become weary mechanic

We’ll need an involuntary means for the monster to persuade the humans to end the dynasty, rather. Or vice versa.

We could provide a voluntary become-Weary mechanic, today.

Add to the end of “Weariness” (unless renamed): “If any Adventurer other than the Monster adds an asterisk to their name on their character sheet, this Adventurer will be considered to be Weary.”

(I’d personally continue that paragraph as follows: “If any Weary Adventurer removes the asterisk from their name, they will no longer be considered to be Weary.” In case someone who dropped off wished to return…)
