Proposal: Starting Over

Insert the following to “Road Map” immediately before ” If there is a Final Destination Stop in the list of Stops, the GPS may repeal this paragraph.”, being sure not to create any new paragraphs in the process

If there is no Starting Point within the last 13 Stops (i.e. those with the highest order number), the GPS should create and append to the list of Stops a new Stop with a Name of their choice, a Capacity of 30, and a Type of Starting Point.

against This doesn’t cover all situations neatly, in that (as is the case right now) there is a Starting Point within 13 Stops of the end, and we’ll soon end up with the player there being required to take a turn. Under this approach, a later Starting Point wouldn’t be added.

I prefer 500 Bus Stops, but giving Starting Point players a small (12 hour?) window to react to becoming Ready would be fair.

@Kevan that is not an accurate description of how the game works

The only reason people at starting stops are required to move is because if they do not move it prevents Brendan from being able to add more stops (as he can only add more spots if there are fewer than 13 stops ahead of everyone). They explicitly don’t count for turn order.

So if there is a person who has timed out on a starting stop and there are fewer than 13 stops left, Brendan first gets to fill out the stop list as normal. Then add a new starting stop. And then we can advance that person and suddenly they are not holding up the game anymore.

Oh, good point, I didn’t connect the unstated dots on the 13s.

But I’m still unexcited about pausing the game for two full days every time we catch up with the dynastic-inactive player.

I think its ambitious to think we’ll all get through 12 stops in 2 days.

Under this proposal, the pause only occurs if we’ve all passed the ready player, but don’t have any more stops any of us want to move to and so need to wait for the ready player to time out and get bumped up to the latest starting point so that Brendan can then add new stops.

In my mind, this fixes the problem a lot better than either of your proposals.

500 bus stops I think doesn’t even work, because once we all move past Purgatoryhausen there will be a ready tripper who is not at a starting point

End of the line greatly increases the chances we move someone off a starting point, and then its not just “play ahead of them for 12 stops, which should take at least 2 days, then we can move them forward” but instead “wait 2 days for them to move before any of us can play ahead”

I think we do probably need something to move dynastic-inactive players along the route to later Starting Points, though, I’ll try something else.

Hm, actually “A Tripper is Waiting if ...” already allows us to move Ready players from an early Starting Point to a later one, so maybe nothing else is needed.
