So, regarding the map and Cities’ coordinates: what’s everyone’s appetite for changing up the way timing actions are done to take into account the actual distances on the map? Or, should those distance only apply to new mechanics yet to be proposed?
There’s pros in making coordinates relevant, but the cons are that people already chose their locations and if those locations suddenly matter, you might want different ones.
It’ll be hard to get a “distances matter” proposal to pass unless it’s fair to both nearby players and distant players – otherwise you will have many players voting it down for being unfair (either to them or in general).
At the moment it’s unclear what that would look like.
@JonathanDark I assume you’ve brought this up for a reason- what do you want out of it? Do you want to have distances matter, or would you prefer if they didn’t?
@DoomedIdeas: I just think it’s a neat idea to have this map and to have us pick our locations out.
Because some of the choices clearly felt like they had some strategic importance, even if there’s no rules to support that yet, it seems a waste to have all that work and thought not actually matter. Even so, if it really is just for flavor, then I’m ok leaving it alone.
@DoomedIdeas: I just had a follow-up thought about this. Consider it a correction to my earlier comment. I was thinking of the idea of how a City could either help or hinder another City by allowing or disallowing their Boats to dock, especially if we go with the idea that Tenets in a City’s Culture are automatically copied to other Cities that dock their boats there.
Basically, our Cities’ locations could be viewed as relationships in the “friend/neutral/enemy” sense rather than actual physical distances. Violence or mutual alliance between cities that are close make sense, and Cities that are farther apart may be relatively neutral to each other.
I’m still thinking about the details of this, but that’s my very vague idea so far. Given that you and I are very close, we could try either the alliance or the enemy option and see what works out.
@JonathanDark I’m not sure I completely understand, but it sounds interesting! I wonder how that would work out with Raven and Josh- is Josh exempt, being the Capitol, or is Raven in the same position we are? Also, I’d certainly rather be friends than enemies!
I’m writing up an idea now. Go vote on “Cultural Appropriate” so that I can get slot back! 😁
@Darknight I’ll have a Vehicles in my warehouse in about two days- would you like to leave your boat at my city during that time so you can take it once it’s made? I’ll have no complaints if you do, I don’t have a use for that Vehicles yet. I’d just like to know if that’s what you plan on doing.
@JonathanDark You’ve got that slot back, now! I’m not seeing any proposals for location-based mechanics from you, though…
Maybe you could share that draft here, and someone can post it for you, since you’re out of slots?
I’m actually not out of slots. I still have one. I know I said that I’d post an idea, but I’ve changed my mind in deference to Josh’s request to use the mechanics we currently have for a little while and let any future mechanics emerge more organically as needed.
A mention that I’ve been tinkering with a new wiki gamestate template for displaying a single letter in a small coloured box, today, which may be a more readable way to list Resources for this dynasty, if anybody wants to try it.
I like it. As long as we don’t introduce more Resources with the same first letter, it works.
I just tried out the letter template, but if anyone doesn’t like it, feel free to revert.
If you put a “width:10em” style on the Fields column (per this sandbox scratch) you can list the boxes without multipliers and they’ll stack at five per row when viewed in the sidebar. Without it they just stack vertically there, as you may have discovered.
(I would step in and make that edit myself, but idle players aren’t allowed to touch the gamestate.)
I’m waiting for the CfJ to resolve (or not) before doing anything else. There’s a number of gamestate changes that already occurred, and if the CfJ doesn’t pass, I’m not sure how to move forward without resolving the potentially illegal changes in some other way.

The wiki and blog seem much more responsive now. Hopefully whatever was ailing the servers just went away. Shout-out to 75th if something was actually fixed.
