Proposal: The Old Ones

Timed out and enacted, 8-1. Josh

Adminned at 06 Jul 2021 09:02:29 UTC

To the first paragraph of Status, add:-

If a Vampire Lord’s Puissance is above 25, then that Vampire Lord is Inhuman. Any Vampire Lord may force an Inhuman Vampire Lord to take a Blood Frenzy action, by performing it on their behalf.

I think this could be worded more clearly by letting Vampire Lords do Blood Frenzy for free if there is an Inhuman Vampire Lord, reducing the Puissance of the Inhuman Vampire Lord by 7 in the process.

Is there a good reason not to simply just place a hard cap on how high Puissance can go, though? This seems like an unnecessarily complex way to do soft caps.

Also, this opens up a potential admin-only scam if Puissance gains happen to happen around the same time as a player idling from inactivity; either you force them to Blood Frenzy before idling them, or idle them to stop other people forcing them to Blood Frenzy, depending on whether the Blood Frenzy benefits you or not. I’m not sure whether there’s a good way to fix that while maintaining the mechanic.

I don’t hate this at all - I like Blood Frenzy as a way of periodically unsettling the Crypt.

My instinct is always to favour simulation over simplicity, so that some future rule of “the Lord who most recently took a Blood Frenzy action is Blood-Soaked” (or some current rule I haven’t noticed) is more likely to work as expected.

No strong reason not to cap it instead, I just thought it was worth doing something a bit different than the usual “when a number hits X it stops”.

against dislike that its a race for whoever admins the proposal or gets on right after Josh does a run

It’s a race to do an action which has entirely random effects that aren’t under the control of the person performing it. So it doesn’t matter who performs it.
