Proposal: The Wandering Trader

Add this to the bulleted list in Rule 2.2.1 “Locations”:

* Trader: If a Colonist is adjacent to the Trader, they may spend 1 energy to exchange 3 of any resource in the Stockpile for 1 of another.  As a weekly action, the Expedition Leader can change the position of the Trader.

Add “W Trader” to the Settlement Legend under Occupied, and place the Trader at 5S.

Per the fact that there are 60 rocks, 39 food, and 13 meals in the stockpile, yet no wood. (I recognize that we simply need more people cutting wood, but this is obviously not a viable option of a sustainable source of wood, just a backup.)

I almost CoVed to against because this makes it too easy to get drinks, but unless I messed up the math, the current method of planting and brewing is quite a bit cheaper, Energy-wise than having a Gatherer farm seeds and trading them in.

against This would restrict the production costs of future resources; if we had a Fisher at the River and someone standing near the Trader, we could pay 7 Energy for 1 of any resource, so nobody would ever have to gather an Energy-intensive resource the hard way. (Unless I’ve got my sums wrong, this rule would already make trading a cheaper alternative to Mining, if we wanted Copper or Iron; it’s also the cheapest way to convert Fish into Meals.)

It’d also be an extremely easy way for a rogue player to throw away precious resources in bulk, which seems dangerous.

against and I may decide to veto this. I don’t want to take the challenge out of gathering resources.
