Proposal: This is turn based… right?

Unpopular, 2-3 with 2 DEFs and Monarchple voting AGAINST. Failed by JonathanDark.

In the rule “Squares”, change the words “As a daily action, a Meeple can set the color of a white square” to “As a Phase 3 Turn Action, a Meeple can set the color of a white square”.

Not even totally sure how I feel about this; but I think it would make some sense to have *all* actions be tied to your turn. What’s the point of setting a turn order if some actions bypass it anyway?

So my reasoning was that the daily square-set mostly doesn’t have an immediate impact and (due to the random effects) is hard to use strategically, so it’s something that players can safely do outside the turn system – and it’s helpful to have some such action to give people a reason to visit when it’s not their turn, so that you can tell who’s still there and paying attention.

It’s possible that proposing and voting is enough of an action to make that work, though.

There are plenty of immediate impacts - you could try to snipe a green square underneath someone right after they’ve moved but before they’re done phase 3 to set them back to 0. There are probably infinitely many other things like this which I really don’t think fit at all with a turn-based dynasty, so I’ll be in support of this

Granted, there’s only a 1 in 10 chance you get any given colour, but that’s still enough to make it worthwhile

I prefer to consolidate everything island-grid-related into Turn Actions at this point. If people are bored when its not their turn, they should spend the time getting others to take their turns! :D

I’m considering proposing something that would both encourage people to take their turns sooner and give others something to do daily, like a Daily Communal Action. Stay tuned…

@Habanero: Wow, I didn’t even consider the potential for that snipe, although it doesn’t work in the current rules because we have a rule against coloring underneath a token. (It would be very difficult as snipes go, which is probably why I didn’t consider it.)

I think that protection only actually triggers if all of a Meeple’s Tokens are on the same square (“no Meeples whose Tokens occupy that square” sure sounds like it to me, anyway, rather than something more reasonable like “no Tokens that occupy that square”). Would’ve kept that one to myself but I intend to attempt to win conventionally this time instead of my usual scamful style (hence the Gates, an additional layer of anti-instant-win-scam protection).
