Proposal: Tides 2: Revenge of The Moon

Self-killed. Failed by Kevan.

Adminned at 15 Mar 2017 17:24:41 UTC

Add a new section titled “Tides”
Add the following text under it

The Statolith must, as a weekly action perform the following atomic actions:
1. Determine a direction by rolling a DICE4. 1 = up, 2 = right, 3 = down, 4 = left
2. Move every mobile Neighbor and Creature one cell in that direction, if they can be put there.

Change the sentence “Big Grumpers and Eels are mobile.” to

Big Grumpers, Eels and Sea Weed are mobile

Like the first time, I still don’t like swingy RNG like this man.

But, alright, make it so that the Tide happens a certain day (Monday?) or something please and if there’s nothing else wrong with it, I’ll FOR this.

Change “must” to “may”, wouldn’t you say? Surprised Cuddlebeam let this one get away.

1.  PERform
2.  NESW aren’t actually defined.  We need directions like up/down/left/right.
3.  This doesn’t prevent neighbors from winding up in Foggy Locations.  Not sure if intended.  It may not even prevent Creatures from winding up in Foggy Locations, since the restriction is on where the Creatures can move, and not where the tide can move them.

[Cuddlebeam] I think 1 square once a week isn’t that swingy.

[Viv] Well that was put in place because otherwise you could just choose to not preform the tides action, but I didn’t want to tie it down to a specific day in case you’re not online to do those actions. That could be changed to a specific one like Cuddlebeam suggests.

[Oracular rufio] Thanks. Since the wikipage is called “map of habitat” I assumed we could use NSEW, since maps usually have north pointing upward, but I guess it isn’t defined in the rules that way. It shouldn’t be a problem (as far as I can tell) if Neighbors ended up in foggy locations, however the tides wouldn’t move any Creatures there since the rules state quite clearly that “Creature can’t move to a Location named “Foggy Location”.”

I mind not neither way. As long as it’s not turning into a specific hour, I’ll do what I must.

Yeah. I suggested the specific day thing so that the swing would’nt happen at some unknown day each day so that the gamestate just suddenly changes out of the blue because that was the time Viv was available/willing to do it. Like, you plan a bunch of stuff, set up the gamestate nicely to pull off the plan but then WOOP tides appear and it gets messed up. Limiting it to a day lets me know when to brace myself, and it leaves the rest of the days available for planning/setup/strategy/etc.

unknown day each week*

Too late to change it now though.

If you remind me when I have a free proposal slot and this proposal is still stuck here I’ll post it for you unless I have something else more important to do.

Also late AF reply but oh well

@Viv: I get tired of telling people that imperatives (should, must, etc) are cancer lol. There’s a fix in the works apparently (https://wiki.blognomic.com/index.php?title=Imperative_Rework) but they’re still cancer (I’m guilty of using this cancer but I didn’t know that it was cancer at the time so oh well).

against Lukewarm to random noise, we might end up regretting it in the endgame when the victory comes down to which way an eel happens to move.

Can’t see any reason why this has to rely on the Statolith, when the actions require no decisions to be made - why not make it a Weekly Communal?

[Kevan] Because of the rule “The Statolith, although embedded in the Creature, is not classified as an Organ for the purposes of dynastic rules.” the Statolith is limited to the weekly random nutrient gift as the only Dynastic rule that lets them do anything.
