Proposal: Triple Point

In “Heat”, replace “which defaults to 98.6” with “which defaults to the average of all other Villagers’ Heat rounded down”.

For each Villager who Reinitialised while this proposal was pending, reduce their Heat by X where X is equal to 98.6 minus the rounded-down average of all other Villagers’ Heat (at the point at which they took the action).

Under the spotlight of respawning, we should probably unify new/returning/reinitialising to all come in at the same average. Currently unidling players get the average (even if they’re new to the dynasty), respawning players get the higher value, and new players’ Heat is a little ambiguous (do they get the default or are they considered to have “become unidle”, since they weren’t unidle before joining the game?).

I’m not convinced that unidling or resetting is an especially tempting thing to do as it already stands, or worth nerfing. Time is explicitly a currency in this dynasty, and getting to start with 98.6 Heat seems like a reasonable offering for the hundreds of hours an unidling or resetting player is losing compared to the rest of the player group.

Heat might be a currency, but the game world is constantly removing it from circulation. Those players who’ve so far opted out of taking any game actions at all don’t still have a healthy stockpile of 98.6 to spend; they’ve been buffeted around by events and are at 90.2.

My instinct on a fair starting value for a late arrival would be to think of them as having been in the game all along, but playing perfectly defensively. That’s difficult to put into an equation, but taking an average Heat value (currently 90.9) doesn’t seem like a bad estimate of it. I think it’s impossible for anyone to still be on 98.6 right now, however defensively they could have played it.

It’s a fair question whether heat can be isolated in this way though; the active player may have items, or a position in a useful building, or an ongoing relationship that their heat expenditure has earned them.

In this dynasty, though, it’s definitely true that an unidling player on day 29 with a full deck of Heat is probably at an advantage, fools-Golding notwithstanding. So for

Flagging this up ahead of time in case there other ways to read it: at the time Brendan took the Reinitialisation action today, the true average Heat was 90.7F, but the wiki page was erroneously listing values that would have suggested it was 91.2F (because I’d miscounted how many hours of heat loss to apply, and only corrected this after Brendan had reinitialised).

Would not begrudge Brendan a proposal to assign them a bonus 0.5F, if that’s where they expected to land.
