Proposal: Undominate it

In the rule “Highway”, change the text:

A Highway Route has a Scouting Cost of 5.


A Highway Route has a Scouting Cost of 5 if the driver scouting it had 2 or fewer Highway routes before scouting, and 12 otherwise.

If any Driver has more than 3 Highway Routes, remove any they have after the first 3 in their Route List.  If they have not Requested Assignment since buying a Highway Route, they gain 5 Cash for each Highway Route removed in this way.

As ais523 has pointed out, highway routes are way too cheap.  At the same time, just increasing the cost would put players without them at a major disadvantage.  Here’s a way to fix the former without touching the latter.

Though some people have worked their way out pretty well and could Scout for up to 5 Highway Routes before this is enacted…

3 because Soviet Brendon already has 3? That seems a reasonable cap pre-enactment. I’m a little annoyed with the timing though because I was aiming for my third this week, and need to hit three double-dailies before this proposal enacts as a result. That’ll be fine if this proposal times out, but not if it’s quorumed, so I’m not voting for now in an attempt to stall the queue.

against Because of the phrasing. If you buy a bunch, then request assignment, then by one more, then pass this you can cash them all in across assignment.

Also it seems unfair to punish people to who realized highway routes were the right investment strategy.

I don’t get it.

@ais523: You have 2 or fewer Highway Routes in your pool (actually you have exactly 2) so for your third you would spend only 5 Cash no matter what. (And for a fourth Highway Route you would have to Request Assignment first, which you cannot do until Monday, and by then this Proposal would have timed out anyway.)

@Clucky: Well I just don’t understand what you mean about the phrasing!

And in my opinion, rising the Scouting Cost will punish people who did *not* realize Highway Routes were so important. Those who did realize that will be able to Scout for more Highway Routes before this is enacted.

@Ltn Koen: No they won’t. Everything past three will get wiped out. Everyone else can get up to three for five. Its basically saying “nice job notcing these were powerful. Now we’re just going to let everyone get them and remove the head start you should’ve gotten from noticing it earlier”

The idea behind the “If they have not Requested Assignment since buying a Highway Route, they gain 5 Cash for each Highway Route removed in this way.” clause is probably to put a cap at three and prevent people from generating cash across assignment requests. It still fails for two reasons though:

1) I bought a highway route a while ago, then I requested assignment. Then I bought two more. But technically, even if I bought another I would still have requested assignment since buying a highway route, so no refund for the fourth.

2) Even if fixed, SB can scout two highway routes, go to five, request assignment, scout a sixth and get 10 cash across assignment.

I read the Proposal like ten times, and for some reason I never noticed the two lines between the second blockquote and the flavored text…

Guys, this is supposed to fix a dynasty-breaking issue.  Please don’t vote against because of the last bit because if this fails the next version will have to remove the routes with NO compensation.
