Proposal: Unroguelike

Reword the text of the rule “Rogues {I}” to read:

Participants who have the Rogue Characteristic are known as Rogue Participants.

Remove the Characteristic of Rogue from all Participants who currently have it.

I don’t understand this rule. Being a Rogue grants no clear gameplay advantages, only disadvantages, so it has to have some scammy purpose. That’s made more evident by the way it has only been put to use by one player (aside from myself) who just happened to propose and enact the rule. Does anyone else know why you would choose to go rogue, aside from holding a brief window of time to take heist actions after a target reset?

I think the rule was intentionally designed to make win-via-scamming attempts easier – one thing that makes scamming difficult is that people can reset your Heist Action timer via scoring and removing your target, meaning that if scoring is happening rapidly, it’s hard to get the full range of the DICE48 to be useful. Turning Rogue is basically a way that you can hide from the rest of the dynastic gameplay for a while, enabling you to embark on a series of actions without scoring resets getting in the way.

Becoming a Rogue doesn’t have any obvious use besides that, which is why I’m surprised at people turning on the status.

Yep, that’s precisely it. Some rounds can end in less than 2 days, which can make it impossible to get anything done outside of your team’s plan.

Why not propose to get rid of it altogether then, if we are effectively disabling it? Or, make it a Mutable rule if we want to allow a future scam to add the necessary ingredients.

This proposal currently seems like a pointless half-measure.

Sorry, that was overly harsh. It does seem like a half-measure though, leaving a rule in place that has no function.

As near as I can tell, there’s no current use for going rogue; but it *is* nice to have the option to perform solo scams without the people who are ostensibly on your team ruining it. I think we keep it

@SB: so what was your plan when you went rogue during this most recent round?

@JD: I try to make my proposals as simple as possible so they are easy to parse; I didn’t want to extend this one to tinkering with “Teams and Targets” unless I had to. I can make it more of a full wipe if that would make you more comfortable voting in favor.

@Brendan, with all due respect, what possible reason would I have to share that information?

@Brendan: I’ll think on it. I can appreciate a concise change, so thanks for the explanation. Don’t worry about changing it just for my vote.
