Story Post:  Butcher Unprocessed Corpses and Knit Yarn

Adminned at 23 Jul 2025 19:54:35 UTC

The First Dynasty of Geran had us raising sheep. The Fifth Dynasty of Ais523 had us being the sheep. Subsistence farming and shepherding are part of Blognomic’s roots.

But this time, we’re leaving the shepherding to the NPCs.

This time, our job is to turn their hard work into the very essentials for survival. Preserve the meat, card the wool, and knit the socks, because the men in the hills with the sheep are counting on us.

Score 5. A purely pastoral, Agricola-style dynasty seems very pleasant.

Score 2. Much less so for being presented as a game of “butchering corpses”. “Corpse” is also generally used to refer to human bodies, this would have worked better as “carcasses”.

Score 1; I don’t like to butcher corpse; please

Score 3. From the description this sounds like a fun dynasty but I do think the title misses the mark a bit.

Score 2, unless this tied more into a horror theme I’m not all into it

Bucky:

Score 3 because it works but it’s bland.

Score 2 - The acronym feels disjointed, despite the gameplay.

Score 1. This contains two fishing attempts at buzzword 7:

Why have we adopted a meta of harshly punishing people who have engaged with a game mechnic?

I understand the strategic argument - those who haven’t engaged with that mechanic should bias against those who have in their scoring as a way of mitigating their potential downside - but making it the sole lens through which an entry is viewed seems like an excessive response.

The “If this rounded value is 1, then the Backronym is considered a Flop and any later steps in this action that would award Points to any Wordsmith are skipped.” rule to me suggests that detecting when people are trying to get extra points from buzzwords is intended to be part of the game mechanics

Sure, and detecting them is important, but the response feels disproportionate. ‘Detecting’ the someone has made a good entry and could therefore potentially stand to gain 10 points in this round is probably more meaningful than ‘detecting’ that someone wants a half-hit on a buzzword for a bonus 1, and writing a good entry is precisely as mechanically pure as trying to find buzzwords. The purpose of the evaluation is to consider whether the submitted made a good entry or not; the entries that include buzzwords are frequently worse, contorted around their objective, but a blanked ‘1s for all buzzwords’ approach seems like a blunt response.

That’s a lot of typos. Kick in swiftly please, tea.

The Flop rule was very much added to counter the otherwise viable tactic of posting full garbled alphabets to score a guaranteed +5 per round.

This one seems mild enough not to require the gaze of the Flop mechanic, to me. If the writer deliberately gambled on getting more Buzzword points than they’d lose in Ratings, by writing the more unwieldy “Butcher Unprocessed Corpses” in place of “Butcher Up Carcasses”, some of the feedback here suggests that that didn’t pay off.

Score 5; to counteract Clucky’s vote

I think feedback wise I don’t like corpses; as said before; especially on a engine-based dynasty.

Score 4. The dynasty seems quite fun. Docking points for “corpses”

This Backronym is now closed.

“Unprocessed” contained all the letters from the Buzzword in the 7th position.

“Corpses” contained all the letters from the Buzzword in the 7th position.

Bucky gained 4 Points from the median Score (doubled due to Endgame) and 2 Points from title words containing all the letters of a Buzzword.
