Proposal: We must respond with more measured, focused rage

Flagged as illegal by Kevan. Brendan’s mistimed Town Meeting still counts as a proposal, as per comments on this post.

Adminned at 23 Oct 2007 09:29:22 UTC

When this Proposal passes, the Mayor shall tally the number of “Show Me” requests in the comments of this post.  Valid “Show Me” requests must be phrased “Show me X[, Y][,][ and Z].” X, Y and Z must be the names of living Villagers; the bracketed sections are optional.  If a Villager posts more than one “Show Me” request, only their most recent shall be tallied.

The Mayor shall then make a story post revealing the Hairy Back status of the three Villagers named in the most “Show Me” requests.  In the event of a four-or-more-way tie, the Mayor shall reveal the Hairy Back status of all Villagers so tied.

Show me Zaratustra, spikebrennan and aaronwinborn.  The former two because they have the most powerful remaining occupations, the latter because he keeps trying to kill people.

against No, wait till daytime and make it a town meeting.  It makes sense that way.

What, and give them more time to plan?  They seem to be coordinating now, so we need to act as swiftly as possible.  They can’t kill again tonight; if necessary, we can.

Yes, but it doesn’t make sense for this to be a proposal, it’s definately town Meeting material, and as such, we’ll have to wait till daybreak.

Someone just anonymously changed the status of this proposal to “Vetoed,” with the following admin comment:

“Not a Proposal.
‘The Ruleset and Gamestate can only be altered in manners specified by the Ruleset.’
No rule allowed Brendan to make this proposal.”

1) Only the Mayor may Veto anything.
2) Read Rule 1.3 again.

“Definite town meeting material” is undefined, but feel free to propose a rule defining it and restricting vanilla proposals from covering the same ground.

If you still honestly believe you have a case, take it to a CfJ.

“2) Read Rule 1.3 again.”

Okay, I see “unless the Villager already has 2 Proposals pending”

The original “We must respond with measured, focused rage” was posted as a Town Meeting, and thus was not a legal proposal, so it can’t be pending.

“thus was not a legal proposal”

How are you deducing this?

“Town Meetings may be called by any Villager during the daytime.”  I posted WMRWMFR as a Town Meeting; once I realized it was illegal, I edited it to remove the “Town Meeting” part, but failed to finish doing so before Shadowclaw’s comment posted.  Thus my edit was illegal, it’s still a Town Meeting, and it can’t have been posted legally.

Nothing illegal about making a town meeting proposal during nighttime.  In fact, there’s specifically a line that allows the Mayor to decide their appropriateness, even when dead.

Agreed -  Town Meetings may be called during the daytime, but there’s nothing to say that they can’t be called at other times, or to say that they’d be anything other than standard proposals in that case (standard proposals which happen to have “Mayor can veto this if” conditions).

So anything not forbidden is permitted?  I’ll concede to the late Mayor’s opinion on this, but for the record, I’m a dissenting opinion.

I’ve flagged this as illegal, assuming that Brendan’s CfJ challenge was him being just as confused as I was by the ultra-cryptic quoting of Rule 1.1.

If an admin flags a proposal as illegal, they should explain exactly why they’ve done it, and say who they are.
