In the rule “The Ball”, change the text

If the Ball is Out of Play, any Player may gain the Ball for themselves by updating the GNDT to that effect.

to

If the Ball is Out of Play, any Player except for the most recent one to have the Ball may gain the Ball for themselves by updating the GNDT to that effect.

This has the problem Kevan pointed out for my fix—it gives a “big advantage” to players who check the blog more frequently.

However, since currently throw-ins are the only mechanism for the ball to switch sides (assuming players don’t kick to the other side), and because I am probably a player who checks the blog more frequently:

Eritivus: I still think it’s better than “get a kick for each time you miss”.

Yes, it’s a big advantage to alert players or those with the ability to set up alerts to tell them when the GNDT has changed. I don’t see any innate problem with a base mechanic of “if you cause the ball to leave play, reset some stuff and you gain control of it” - if that interacts weirdly with a mechanic of “random chance of the ball leaving play every time you kick it”, perhaps that’s the mechanic we need to fix.

for since I’m online fairly regularly and could set up such an alert if I wanted to. Nomic!

for Kevan how would you do that?

If I told everyone how I’d do it, I’d risk having less of an advantage over them. Besides, maybe I’m bluffing. Nomic!
