Proposal: Brand Recognition [Today]

To the rule “Performance”, append a sub-rule called “Star Trucks” with the following text:

The Truck with the highest Performance score is known as the Star Truck. If multiple Trucks are tied for highest Performance, the Star Truck is the Truck with the highest Dollars. If two or more Trucks are tied for highest in both Performance and Dollars, all of them are considered Star Trucks.

When a Star Truck changes their Menu, the Yard shall make a Story Post listing the Dishes on that Menu and their Ingredients, but not their Prices. After this post is made, a Star Truck whose Menu was announced in this way may not change their Menu or Operating Status until the next Prep Phase begins.

Right now, there’s almost no way to overtake a leader, since everyone’s making roughly similar amounts of money per day. Making the leader’s menu public gives others more opportunities to snipe them and catch up.

The problem is that whoever is/are the Star Truck(s) will simply wait until everyone else submits their Menus, then the Star Truck(s) will submit Menus last, to prevent anyone else from changing their Menus to match.

This then leads everyone else to wait for the Star Truck(s) to submit their Menu(s) first.

Now everyone is waiting, and no one submits any Menus.

The intent is basically more or less “Star Truck locks in their menu first”, just not sure how to codify that in an async turn structure. Like, if someone wants to lock in before the Star Truck, no reason to not allow that, but I’d assume most people will just wait for the Star Truck.

Right, but if I’m the Star Truck, and I don’t want people copying my Menu, I’m gonna watch the Slate and make sure nearly everyone has submitted Menus before I submit mine.

I get what you’re trying to do, but I think it needs a different approach to allow others to copy the Star Truck’s Menu.

Here’s a suggestion that’s on-theme: the Star Truck has such Brand Recognition that their customers won’t go for any Menu change at all, so a Star Truck must carry at least three Dishes that it did the prior Trading Day.

That way, a Star Truck could slowly change their Menu out, but only by introducing even more Dishes and then gradually removing the old ones. Meanwhile, others would know which Dishes are guaranteed to be there and could copy them the next Trading Day.
