In rule “The Dice Deck”,

Add a subsection called “Probability Manipulation” with the description:

As an atomic action for Settlers that has 10 of the same item in their stockpile, that Settler may add a positive integer (inclusively) in between 2 and 12 to the Dice Deck. That Settler may not take this action again until after the next Production of Resources. Additionally, that Settler must reduce the number of an item is at 10 by 10

I don’t know if it’s a good idea to allow someone to get big payouts from having a 12 in their Domain, then adding 12 back in to the dice pool, and getting another big payout, then repeat until win.

Let’s suppose the dice pool gets small, but not small enough that it is reset. The rules say it won’t be reset until it gets down to only 6 numbers or all the numbers are the same. Here’s an example of a dice pool where your Proposal could go wrong:

2 5 6 6 7 8 8 9 10 12

Now let’s say that someone has put a 2 in one of their Domains and a 12 in the other. They are allied with another person who does the exact same thing. The 2 comes up next. The payout for a 2 is 5 items, so they have at least 5 items in their Stockpile. Next, the 12 comes up, which also has a payout of 5. Now they have 10 items, and the allied person also has 10 items. One person uses their 10 to put the 2 back in the pool. The other person uses their 10 to put the 12 back in the pool.

Granted, the likelihood of the 2 and the 12 continuing to come up back-to-back isn’t great, but essentially 2 people could tip the dice pool fairly heavily in their favor.

What would probably happen is that everyone else would join in, and the dice pool would become nothing but 2’s and 12’s, rendering the bigger payouts for those numbers meaningless since everyone would start getting them.

“may not take this action again until after the next Production of Resources” stops any recursion, doesn’t it? And the pool resets to its default values when the deck is shuffled.

@Kevan: The phrase “after the next Production of Resources” is simply the upcoming Production of Resources, which will only take away one number from the pool. If this is, say, the 9th iteration of the Production of Resources, and me and my friend add in two numbers, the next time we can add in two numbers is after the 10th iteration of Production of Resources, since the 10th is the next after the 9th.

It would only take two Settlers working together to actually grow the pool so that it never reshuffles.

I take that back, since two numbers are removed at time, it would take 3 Settlers working together, but the point still stands.

But there’s also the cost that you have to have 10 of the same item. You have to wait until the Dice Deck has burned 2 or 3 times before collaborations like that could happen.

Alternatively, there’s making a bunch of Settlements. But that would mean a lot of collecting and burning through.
