It was a simplistic saying in the military, told from every Commander to their Lieutenants, but it held a purpose. No one wanted a repeat of the incident where a young upstart led his regiment in a charge up a hill, completely overconfident of overwhelming the enemy forces dug in on the other side. There was barely anyone alive who fought on the attacking side that day.
Josh: he/they
Score 3. Like all good proverbs, a very obvious truism that breaks down a bit when one thinks about it too closely.
