Proposal: Flipping Awesome

Create a new rule called “Idleflip”:

Unidle Partygoers are publicly tracked. Unidle Partygoers that are Admins are publicly tracked (other, redundant methods of tracking this data are not necessary, but are encouraged to be up to date as well).

When a Partygoer goes from Idle to Unidle, or Unidle to Idle, that Partygoer has Idleflipped. A Partygoer can only Idleflip once every four days (96 hours).

Any Idle or Unidle Partygoer can Idleflip themselves by making a blog post that is clearly and unambiguously to this effect.

Continuing where I left off ages ago. I don’t think that it’s entirely necessary for only Admins to be allowed to Idle/Unidle people, and this lets us try that out.

“Idleflip” is an incredibly ugly term for something that happens frequently; aesthetics matter.

Also, this has a number of unintended functional consequence that I don’t like: it breaks sparrowscript, which runs off the sidebar; it makes it impossible to complete the unidling process if you don’t have a wiki account, or at least means that if you do then the official player count is inaccurate for a period of time; it introduces timing scams, as a player can fast-unidle at a critical moment rather than having to wait on an admin; it either forces tracking to lost the badges of players twice or creates confusion in gamestate by having the emperor appear in the player list despite not having any other tracked information…

Just, aesthetically, practically, functionally this seems like a bad idea to me.

* list the names, not lost the badges… Predictive text doing its thing…

- Those software issues (sparrowscript, etc) I understand but I think it would just be temporary friction, they’re solvable.

- You could still unidle by requesting it to an Admin. This wouldn’t remove that. So having a wiki account wouldn’t be totally necessary, it just gives Players additional power and options without removing anything they can already do.

- Admins already can fast-unidle at a critical moment. I don’t see why layman Players shouldn’t be allowed to have the same privilege.

- I don’t get that last part about tracking lost badges unfortunately. If it’s about the software though, I don’t see how it’s too big of a problem in the long-term.

Oh OK, names. Yeah, there would be double tracking of the names while it’s tested, that’s intentional, but I don’t mind making a version that makes it *only* tracked on Party Central. I think that would be better in the long-term, but I didn’t propose it that way to soften the Proposal for the short-term.

But, yeah. I can just change that.

(I’m also open to suggestions for alternate names for idleflip lol)

against per Josh on the redundant gamestate tracking.

Additionally, making idleflipping a dynastic action that overlaps with idling means that players can’t be idled or unidled during a Hiatus, either by the traditional method or the new one.

Overlapping action definitions is a serious core bug with the “Dynastic Action” Appendix keyword. If, for example, the Appendix definition of “Resolve” were copied into the dynastic rules, it would be illegal to resolve DoVs.
