Proposal: Ghost Writers

Enact a new rule, “Timing Out”:-

The Publisher may render a Storyteller Idle if that Storyteller has not posted an entry or comment in the past 96 hours (4 days), and if the Publisher has also received no Creative Writing or Scoring Response from that Storyteller in the past 96 hours.

Lowering the idle timeout to 4 days this dynasty, in situations where the player also hasn’t submitted the game action that we’re waiting for either. (If Juniper is reading, we’re still waiting for you to score the fragments that were posted on Tuesday; everyone else responded within 24 hours.)

To me the crux of the problem is people not getting their submissions in

Letting someone vote and reset their timer doesn’t fix that potential problem

If somebody is actively voting but deliberately refusing to make story submissions for whatever reason, we can decide how to deal with that. But it’s not a thing that’s currently happening.

I think it’s worth overruling BlogNomic’s standard, generous “if someone walks away from the game we’ll wait seven days to see whether they come back” idling rule in a dynasty where the game can’t move forward during those seven days.

Wasn’t there an initial timer on submissions and scoring?  I think that might have been removed.  With enough players that are active, is missing a score or a fragment from time to time that bad?

The starting rule was that we’d wait 72 hours for story submissions and 48 hours for ratings, only skipping ahead early if everyone had replied. But the game had at least two players who were present but inactive, so we were just playing to that five-day timeout. (Writer’s Block was the proposal that removed the timeouts, and it seemingly led to two inactive players voluntarily dropping out.)

Aside from Juniper giving no reaction to Tuesday’s fragments, it seemed to have been working: everyone else gave a response within 26 hours.

Missing out an occasional score or fragment is pretty harmless. But every round going to five-day timeouts because we’ve pitched the game speed as “72 + 48 hours per round, sooner if everyone replies in time, but no worries if not!” is likely to be a slog.

Yes, that does sound like a bit of slog.

Wondering if something around quorum could work.  If a quorum of storytellers have replied, the publisher has the option to announce a deadline and a 24 hour timer kicks in.

That’s an intruiging idea. I feel like I’ve pushed through a lot more Proposals than normal for an Emperor, so I’ll leave Nad’s idea for him or someone else to propose if it seems reasonable.

That said,  for on this one because I’d like to get this dynasty going again. It feels like we had some momentum that got lost.

for but Nad’s quorum idea sounds interesting.
