Proposal: Inflatable Jousting Ring

1-6, cannot be enacted w/o CoV—Excalabur

Adminned at 20 Aug 2005 16:55:10 UTC

Colour square 10 grey, and name it ‘Inflatable Jousting Ring’.

Change the following sentence in Homelands from

If a Player is Loyal to Throne or Inflatable Jousting Ring, then e may be refered to as a Knight.  All Knights are Allies of each other.

Move the last paragraph of World to a sub-rule entitled ‘the Empire’, and add the following text to it:

Any player in the Inflatable Jousting Ring may add a Pointed Stick to eir Items list, so long as ey don’t have one.  Pointed Sticks cannot be used in the normal manner so long as a player is located in the Inflatable Jousting Ring.

However,  any player located in the Jousting Ring may challenge another player to Joust at any time by posting a challenge to the frontpage, so long as the other player is located at the Inflatable Jousting Ring at the time of the challenge.  The challenged player must respond to the challenge with either an acceptance or refusal to Joust.  If ey refuse, ey must transfer $10 to the challenger and $10 to the Emperor.  The Emperor may respond to either the challenge or the acceptance of a challenge with a post containing a positive integer less than 5 (known as P), with greater numbers being issued for more impressive use of the english language in the post in question, notably for use of suitably insulting, yet poetic language, and boating of prowess in the Jousting Ring.

Any other player may respond to either the challenge or the acceptance thereof (but not both) with a declaration of support for the poster in question.  The total number of posts supporting each player shall be their respective values of ‘S’.

After 24 hours, each player rolls DICE(4+P+S). If a player does not roll within 24 hours, any player may roll on eir behalf, with the first such post considered to be the definiative roll.  The player who rolled greater shall be the victor, and the lessor shall be the loser.  If the rolls are equal, then the DICE shall be re-rolled using DICE(3+P+S), and so on, until the tie is broken.

The loser shall transfer $10 x the difference in scores to the victor.  Each player that supported the loser must have eir dollars reduced by $3 times the number of supporters of the victor, and each player that supported the victor must increase eir dollars by $3 times the number of supporters of the loser.  If a Knight is victorious in the Joust, then eir name shall be listed in Small Caps in the sidebar to reflect eir service to the throne until such time as another Knight jousts in the ring.

A player that participated in a Joust at the Inflatable Jousting Ring loses all of eir Pointed Sticks upon leaving the Inflatable Jousting Ring.

Cool?  Or loopholey?  You be the judge

Peeve: people who vote against without saying why

So: against What I don’t like about this proposal: The number of players betting for/against a knight shouldn’t affect eir performance. We don’t have $ we have B$. The bets are kinda steep. The small caps thing is overboard. The last paragraph needs to go, and I’m not sure about the effects of the “and so on” language.

Other than that I like it and think it would be fun.

Couple of points:
It’s conventional to drop the letters before the currency symbol: see US$, C$, etc.

And the supporters affecting performance is my favourite part.  I’ll re-cast this proposal in a couple of days when i’ve had a chance to mull it over.
